Noticed that they posted a pretty informative page on PtY release. But I have yet to do this beer and wish to change that this year.
I live in Philadelphia and may wait till it hits here.
I may go straight to the source, Russian River!
I am wondering about the lines??
    1. Is there a crazy long line every day? (For example can someone show up on a Wednesday at 5pm and still get some that day?
    2. Is there better places to go that the lines aren't as long?
    3. How bad were the lines in Philadelphia? (Over night at Monk's to get a sip?)

I'm really asking in reference to last year. I realize this year may be even crazier, I'm just trying to get an idea of the scene.

It will never hit your area, or anywhere. It's draft only because they want the beer to be enjoyed as fresh as possible! I read a few things where people have waited 5 hours to get into the bar.

So bring a gameboy and a thirst for PTY! Good luck.

Correct. There were a few places that got a keg last year and it vaporized quickly.

Capones in norristown has had it before and I am sure a couple of the bigger hitters in Philly will get it on tap. Capones and Monks always gets the elder so they may get the younger

If you fly to RR, be prepared to camp out like it is Black Friday.

@fureousangel so it's horrible lines even during the week too? I have no reason to go during the first weekend.

I would suggest you skip the first week, because its during beer week in San Francisco and its a zoo, no matter mid-week or otherwise. If all you want to do is try Younger, you should go the second mid-week and get there early (as in... 8am) and wait in line. They open at 11am and its better to get your 3 hour wait and get in right away then wait the 5-9hrs that your are looking at if you get there late.

That being said, I would recommend you pick a bar that will have it in San Francisco during beer week. That way, you can also enjoy all of the other great events that are planned.

    Cheers...

You need to be in line on a week day by 6-7am to be assured you'll be in the first "wave" let in. The upside is that you get to drink endless 10oz pours until around 5pm which is on average when they cut it off for rationing.

Opposed to any other bar who gets it and limits each patron to one 8-12 oz pour and that's all you get. I dunno about you, but after my first 10oz of Younger it's just a tease, and I'm just getting started. Must have more...

I will be in SF/Napa the weekend of 2/13...i am actually a little bummed the timing coincides with the Younger week...we dont get any RR in WA so i was looking forward to going to the brewpub to grab a pint of the Elder and a pint of Row 2 Hill 56...I have never had the younger but given we will only be in town on Friday and Saturday the lines will probably be unreal and as we only have 2 days in the area we might have to pass on RR altogether...

Anyone have a beat on how long we would expect to wait if we got there Friday AM or early Saturday AM? Does the brewpub operate on normal hours or do they open early when Younger is there?

Their release says they changed it to 3 hour limit and 3 10 oz pours per person...

Also - if we do not go to RR - does anyone know of bars that normally have RR beers on tap and might be getting a keg of the Younger in the Napa Valley? Any suggestions on who I should follow on Twitter or Facebook to find out who might be getting kegs of the Younger and when they might be tapping them that weekend?

    Thanks!

Sorry to be cranky but this is nonsense, and more nonsensical every year it seems. This beer can't possibly be worth all of this trouble can it?

I've gone to Darkness Day and Dark Lord day, and those are a lot of effort and waiting, but the whole day becomes an event with bottle sharing and stuff, and then you get 6 bottles of imperial stout. If I had to go to the same trouble (sober!) to get 1-3 pours of a beer, I would be pretty damn disappointed. I can't imagine in my head an IPA (or double or "triple" IPA or whatever) good enough to warrant this procedure.

Don't go on the first day, lines will be 12 hour waits plus regardless of the weather. My buddy tried going last year and the wait to get in was like 14 hours on the first day.

I think one thing to really note is that its available over a window. They allocate beer for every one of those days. Given that, I agree that its better to avoid the first day (or even week) hoopla and wait until the crowds have died down. And bring a lawn chair if you are going, you'll thank me later.

I've been drinking that beer every year since 2008. The 3 ten oz limit has been stated before in years past, and has never been enforced. The 3 hour time limit however, I feel is an EXCELLENT new addition.

@newbeeraday I would wait for it to come to Philly. Phillytapfinder usually runs a post about places that hold events. Some are secretive about their tappings. You can guarantee Monk's will have it. Send me a PM if you want any more info.

I love IPA/DIPAs, but I'd be inclined to agree. My current favorite DIPA is Permanent Funeral, and were I asked to wait hours in line for a bottle of it (much less a pour or two at a bar), I simply wouldn't. I would imagine that for some people PtY is the ultimate tick, though, so I'd imagine that has a lot to do with it (not saying those in the area are just trying to "tick" when they go to drink it, but certainly, I can't imagine driving cross country to have a pint or 2 of one double IPA).

After going three years in a row I skipped last year because it was too crazy. Even during the week. Novelty might begin to wear off though and it might get better. Who knows? But, yes, it's that good. Their other stuff is good too. Especially their sours.
