Of course, I had the same problem with The World of Ice & Fire : the Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones earlier this month; except for the cracking up part...

I do know that my XMAS BIF target, @Mikexw , has sent a "thank you" box my way and it should arrive tomorrow sometime. I will supply pr0n pics in this thread if all the locals would like.

It's not really a thank you box for the beer you sent me (I honestly don't think those are necessary, especially with the ridiculous amount of beer flying around within this group -- it sort of defeats the purpose of a BIF, IMO) -- it's more that we spent a lot of time bs'ing and discussing everything you sent me, plus you sent me a lot of extras (including tons of cool glassware) and keep threatening/promising to send me other stuff that you were all disappointed wasn't available last month. So this was partly a thank you, and partly early payment on the stuff you will now feel obligated to send me when it becomes available, and partly stuff that was really easy for me to find and that I figure/hope you will like.

 

That's about how it works for Maryland as well. No one lives in or drinks beers in either state apparently.

I have only been able to find Sucaba and Parabola once each -- the Sucaba actually in a liquor store in NJ that I was making my first trip too, and after BS'ing for a while with the owner and asking if they had any FW stuff (and having him point out stuff like Wookey Jack) he suddenly must have decided he liked me and dug up what he claimed was his last bottle. I am unfortunately not around there anymore, although if I'm ever in the neighborhood I'll stop by.

And the Parabola was once in Boston waiting for our dinner table to open up, we wandered into a liquor store and Parabola was just sitting there on the shelf. I feel like there is almost a better chance of getting these beers at a small store that gets a few bottles than at a huge place that might get a case but where people camp out for it.

 

Really your best bet is the small place that you get to know the owner/beer guy well enough that they put stuff aside for you. Beerlationships aren't just for websites

 

gonna guess on the Superbowl score of 61. Final score 33-28.

 

I don't have anyone set stuff aside for me but I do have a heads up as to when stuff should be on the shelves which is good enough.

 

73 is my guess for Super Bowl. Hope no one guessed it yet.

 

This. And I throw my beer guy a bone every now again too since he doesn't trade. Its awesome to see his eyes light up when I give him an out of distro beer. It's sharing, which we are supposed to do, but I do also get something out of it.

 

I'm sort of in the same postion as @_RL_ , but unfortunately my "regular" bottleshop doesn't seem to get much of the really good stuff (and tends to be a little overpriced). I am in the process of making new friends though :-)
