Did it once on a Monday in Philly it was fun, more importantly there were many amazing beers there beside that, even ones I enjoyed even more so.. so it all depends on what you want to get out of it.

I hear ya. Their website said that some people waited up to 12 hours in freezing rain to get a pour last year. I'm sorry, but I will never understand why people think they must endure such bullshit in order to basically have bragging rights over what kind of beer they have drank. I though beer fests/releases were supposed to be enjoyable. The younger release sounds miserable, especially to surrounding businesses who have to put up with the hordes of people. To each is his/her own though.

Go to the DIPA festival at The Bistro in Hayward on Feb. 7th and you can try it there plus many other delicious DIPAs.

I've gone the last two year. They have limits set aside for each day of the two week period, so it could run out for the day, if you show up late. 5 hours is about standard, I waited 6+ hours to get a table the first year due to bad planning and my friend showing up late, didn't know what younger was, only went because Eno Sarris talked about it on twitter. Don't expect to get in line after 11am and wait less then 6 hours, people stay to eat and drink, you have to wait until they get their 3 younger fills, finish food then next group comes in, it isn't a fast line due to this. Last year I only waited 3-4 hours, I showed up hours before they opened, on the last week of younger and got in with the first wave of people. The ID/security guy said it was the shortest line of the two weeks. Bring a chair, bring games, have fun waiting with friends. Get there really early, go with friends and take turns holding place in line, you can go across the street to Mac's for breakfast or barnes and noble for a book or starbucks/local coffee joint for coffee, plenty of stuff around to do while waiting. Have fun!

I almost felt bad last year. A local place tapped PtY without any warning on a week day at 11am. They did post it on Facebook though. Thankfully I make my own schedule and was there in 15 min. Waited a total of 10 minutes for 3 8 oz pours. Hope I luck out again this year.

Yes, a number of places in Colorado get it. Falling Rock always gets some. There is usually a guy in the Denver Post or Westword (can't remember which) who lists out all the places getting it.

I did not go to Philly last year, but this year I may well have zero responsibilities around that time, so as long as it's on a weekend, I should be golden. At that point, why not? I may have to take a day off of work, but big deal.

Its 2015, I can play netflix on my phone, watch comedy specials, listen to podcasts or go old school with board games or card games, waiting in line can be pretty entertaining these days. Might as well kill a few hours in line with great friends and be rewarded with a delicious once a year treat from Russian River. Yea, I can go across the street to 3rd street ale works and get beer without waiting, but I can do that any day.

@newbeeraday i lived in San francisco, still visit often, and my peeps up there send me pics of news footage. The place is a mess all the time during the PTY days. Just be prepared to wait.

I'm lucky that there are people from the RR tree down here in SoCal so there are kegs floating around. As with most things, depends on who you know and luck of the draw. I've been able to have it three years running now.

Are bars with PTY allowed to do growlers? Or does RR prohibit this from happening?

I highly doubt any bar will do growler pours. Will definitely be making the trek to Philly for this one, and I know just the spot.

Plenty of places in Philly and suburbs get some amount of Younger (sixtel or half keg, not sure if it shows up in full kegs but could be wrong). Some announce a tap date beforehand, some only announce they've gotten some and tap it without notice, others don't make any mention of it and it just goes on tap. Do some research on which places have gotten it in the past (many, if not most get it year after year). Shouldn't be difficult to find. After that it's a matter of keeping your eye on social media or email.

Take advantage of Philly being the only place on the east coast that gets RR and don't fly all the way out to CA just to stand in line for hours. Instead, go when there's no wait and you can spend the time you would have waited in line doing something else. I've only been out there once before, but it's a beautiful area and I hate to think about if I had wasted some of the time waiting in a line. Good luck!
