I specifically remember being sober, being at work, and getting shut out of tickets.

Good to know. I have family in South Bend and good friends who live in Chicago, so that shouldn't be much of an issue. I'd like to get there as early as possible, I've heard that occasionally people do bottle shares?

Let me put it this way: I didn't come prepared to do any bottle-sharing, really; I had one bottle I was gonna share later, but it was left in the car stupidly, while I was in like for Dark Lord. Even so, the entire time I was in line, people were offering plastic cups and pours of their beers. I stood in line later in the day to grab a random beer on tap, and the people in front of me turned around, asked me why I wasn't drinking, and offered me some of their beer. The entirety of the grounds was littered with bottles (a lot of them whales), and the path to the grounds was the same way.

So yeah, there will occasionally be a bottle share or 3. I recommend bringing something(s) of your own to share, and possibly disposable cups.

Haha that questions was a bit tongue in cheek, which of course rarely comes through in plain text. The bottle shares (along with the awesome draft lists) are one of the things I'm most pumped for. I need to pop my Toppling Goliath cherry.

The bottle sharing is ridiculous. Come prepared and people will respond in kind. And as SeanBond mentioned, even if you forget to come prepared, people will still be very generous with their beers.

There is a lot of, "You have to try this", at DLD.

Yeah, I was sober when I purchased tickets last year (and was also at work). I believe I drank that night though. I curious to see how this year will be handled; queue before 12, or right at the turn of the hour this time?

This x1000. I think it's a "pay it forward" type thing. As soon as someone offers you a pour (rare or not), you just feel compelled to share the rest of the day. At least I do.

Oh yeah, for sure. I've already bought a bottle of the Abyss in preparation for DLD, and I didn't buy it so that I could drink it; I bought it to share. It's a great atmosphere, and the most rewarding thing is to be able to share the wealth with others.

Now if that is a 3rd use Sherry cask used to finish something like A Midwinter Nights Dram... and then went on to age Darklord, i'd be all about it.

I moved to Chicago a few years ago from California and have never been to DLD. Apologies in advance for possibly sounding like a dumbass, and hopefully I'm not asking for tightly kept secrets, but how do you get in the "queue" for tickets and what is the mystery surrounding the F5 button?

Tickets will go on sale online in mid March, usually noon on St. Patrick's Day. They will release a link on their website some time before then. Then it is essentially a crap shoot as to whether you can get into the website and buy tickets before they sell out. They usually also do some in person sales unannounced at the brewery on following weeks.

People seem confused over last years system. F5 helped nothing. Once you got to the ticket site you could get in a queue for tickets. It did not matter if you got into the queue when it first started (10-15 minutes before ticket sales started) or right when sales started, you were randomly given the chance to get tickets. I got in queue about 1 minute before ticket sales and got access to tickets immediately, while the girlfriend got in about 10 minutes before me and didn't get access to tickets until several minutes into the sale. Theres no secret. Your internet connection does not matter. Getting in line an hour ahead of time will only be a waste of your time. Its a luck based system and I think it works better than any online ticketing system.

Stop spreading truth and logic. People are looking for something to bitch about.

That's interesting to know, actually. I was in 15 minutes early, and all I heard was bitching about them starting the queue early. F5 works in a lot of cases, but not this one, I guess.

I'm in the queue right now. waiting...waiting...waiting. Should I hit F5?
