    Not so fast Kemosabe.

Russian River's 1,500 barrels (if this is correct) are probably almost all about 10 core beers, and about half of those are American wild ales brewed in small batches and priced to move slowly. I'm guessing that Pliny makes up about 1/3 to 1/2 of RR's total output. OTOH, Three Floyds has about twice as many core beers, comprising a bunch of different IPAs, pale ales, etc. So even if FFF brews twice as much beer as RR, nothing indicates that the relative proportion of ZD to Pliny is necessarily greater.

I'm not saying you're absolutely wrong, just that raw barrel numbers don't tell the whole story.

EDIT: Even w/ phisigben's numbers above (still about a 2:1 FFF:RR ratio) my response stands.

I agree, raw barrel numbers are only a small portion of the story. I just thought I would throw some facts into the argument. But I would never let something like facts get in the way of a good argument.

That's probably the most accurate guess I've seen. I will tell you this, I lived in San Francisco for 4 years and the hipsters there drink either PBR or Pliny. I hope that gives it some prospective.

if you can't get absolute numbers by asking either brewery, maybe a store owner could pipe up about how much pliny they get per year. people who work at distributors may have some insight too.

that said, if three floyds really does produce twice as much beer as RR, they sure ought to make more zombie dust than pliny. they should open up a new brewery called "zombie dust" that just makes zombie dust.

(i still think citra availability is the limiting factor, incidentally, but it's still a guess. edit: p.s. also, they must hop the shit out of zombie dust, and also i don't think they use extract like RR does--do they?--so it's probably more labor/space/etc intensive, despite the ABV difference)
