oh, i talked to the hostess. they directed me to the bar, being a party of one.

the tables are intended to be community tables, or they at least appear to be. the ones by the sliding glass doors. they (the staff) actually sit other parties together. sat down at a table with two other guests. plenty of seats between us. no less than ten minutes later, they directed another party of one to join the table..

Vegetarianism has a wide range of flexibility. Somewill eat only seafood (as well as dairy and eggs). Others will only accept dairy and eggs, and maybe even not eggs. Vegansim is almost (but not quite) the most extreme version. 0 animal products can be involved at any point in the production process. So a vegetable dish cooked in beef suet isn't vegan, or even vegetarian.

I wouldn't say "vegetarian hostile" as much as I would say "meat eater friendly".

Restaurants don't have to cater to specific dietary restrictions. I mean, they have to advertise any allergen risks (I'd hope they do, at least), but if a restaurant wants to attract a meat eating crowd, it's their business.

And veggie burgers are a blasphemy. They're just hunks of processed crap no human should ever be eating. I'd rather just eat fried rice and beans than some chunk of mashed up soy.

Now a tempe burger on the other hand... I'm not even a vegetarian but I'll eat the bejesus out of a house made tempe burger from Avogadros Number in Fort Collins.

To think it is healthy is incorrect. That is why some individuals consider it "irrational".
To say you do it because you don't like to hurt animals is a better reason, think.

I, personally, take this stance: I stand for humane treatment of animals, free roaming, outdoor pasture raised, grass (or whatever food they eat) fed, not torturing them during slaughter... All that jazz. But as for the individual animal, I couldn't care less about it. I like the taste, it makes me strong, and it reduces the population growth rate (wild animals, most specifically).

Right? Lacto-Ovarian, Lacto-Piscean, Lacto-Lacto, and Lacto-Intolerant... but what does all of this have to do with beer?

After all, this website isn't Vegetarian Cuisine Advocate or Vegan Advocate.

For Christ's sake, Joel! At this rate your going to have my evolved monkey-ass defending myself against the accusation of having white knighting Surly (and I am not not not Surly's biggest fan.)

'Tis a silly thread, so let's be done with it, eh?

P.S. I still think that the big, sensitive brains at Surly dropped the ball on something as simple as making sure that everyone with every sensitivity and dietary concern in the book ought be treated properly and/or with kid gloves upon opening. It was $30 million, after all...

I guess I could have consolidated all those into one post, lol.

Cheers (duff beer for me, duff beer for you...)

EDIT: It seems this thread is finding a lot of reasons for people to argue with each other. Maybe this thread is making people...

    ...surly?

Some veggie burgers are pretty good. I love Town Hall's Black Bean Burger.

You know, I simply stated that I thought Surly should have opened with a couple of more vegetarian options. Maybe calling "vegetarian hostile" was a little over the top, but I was a little surprised that their picking are so thin on that front.

I won't respond to Joel's assertions about the healthiness of a vegetarian diet. It has nothing to do with this thread and I wonder why he even makes such assertions here. I will say that my friends were greatly amused to discover that they're "irrational."

Well I guess if they only season that meat with other meat then I guess that would be the carnivore option .
