I don't treat new breweries that way when they serve up their first sub-par batches and I'm definitely not going to do it for an established brewery.

im not buying anymore Abrasive of the 01/09- 01/15 canning if Surly deems they had some isolated problems on a few batches within this time frame and have admitted this should they not pick them all up so as not to even take the chance of a bad brew being out for purchase and replenish with fresh canned from the line that "they are closely monitoring and watching " IMO it would be the right thing to do for $16 plus brew to us the consumer

Maybe they could have an "Abrasive Day" at the brewery, where everyone could go and exchange the suspect cans for the fresh batch?

    (Whistles, exits room slowly... )

Taking my comment way to seriously. Sucks for sure! Trust me I spent a lot of $'s and been in private conversations with people from BA about my frustrations over my favorite DIPA. However, with the 2 month delay and the short brew cycle, I just want DAMN good Abrasive! If that means they would brew another batch of it since this one has issues, Hell yeah!

Am I missing something? I thought Surly Eight was universally-acclaimed*? :grimacing:
(Goes back to check the threads..)

Edit: This thread? One poster suggested bringing the bottles to the brewery in that thread.

*At least among those I talked to who rushed out to buy it right away. Sold-through fast, too.

I liked Surly 8. Didn't notice any off-flavors. I'm going to let one sit for a year.

Love the reply, similar to what I got in email.

My first 4-pack, 1 flat, 3 fine. First can of 2nd 4-pack.. flat. But still tasty, so I'm going to roll with it.

I get what you're saying. The big guys should be held to a higher standard than should the start-up around the corner with two workers and not much capital. And certainly they should be, but most of us here can agree that Surly has built up their reputation through merit. A tweek here and there and they will have shit back on track.

It's really no more fair to bag on the big player that made a mistake as it is the small player that didn't hit it out of the park their first time up. While the litte guy may figure things out with some experience, we KNOW Surly will correct whatever it is that's the problem.

/brought to you while drinking Abrasive on draft. And it's fan-fuckin-tastic!

I bet there are a lot of people with this same attitude.
And there's nothing wrong with that attitude at all - to each his own.

But I do think it downplays the percentage of how large of an issue this actually is.

I think i am going to return one of the four packs I got and keep the other one and hope they aren't too bad on the carbonation. Hopefully they have the canning line dialed in for the next batch so I can buy my regular case of it!

Couldn't agree more @gatornation. That was less of a solution and more of a long-winded BS explanation on Surly's part. Sorry, not buying it (the explanation or the beer) until the bad batches are pulled.

I've had 2 cans from a 4 pack dated 1/10/15 and bought at S Lyndale. Both pretty low on the carbonation.

Here's my take, cuz why not. First can absolutely undercarbed. I'm gonna drink it, cuz F-it... I got better things to do (I do have time to gripe on a message board though).

No way a national brewery ever lets this go to market... There'd be some serious backlash.

Case in point... Boulevard chocolate ale, infected batch. Every single consumer with an infected bottle got a refund from the brewery... They initiated the national roll out for the deal. (National by means of the markets they were in). And liquor stores were contacted to pull inventory,

How is an undercarbed can any different? Still drinkable I guess? Wonder if heady is ever put into the wild like this.
