Send the rest of those canning dates to Chicago and brew a new one for MN

Extremely disappointing that although they recognize that "some" of the cans were under carbonated and they had some sort of issue at the canning line, they dont seem to be taking much responsibility. Meaning having a recall, giving some kind of refund via their distributors...something?

It would be nice if they at least offered us a free beer at the taproom

1/9/15 bought from Rum River Wine & Spirits. 3 cans in and all had low carb, but still tasted great. Even w/o this thread, I would have been suspicious about the carb levels, but as I said, low carb > no carb, and I'll drink the fourth tomorrow. I suggest you drink this beer immediately, don't wait, don't hoard. I may buy a four pack again next week, but I'll drink it the same week.

But, moving forward, I will sure as hell be skeptical about any abrasive I purchase and I'll follow this thread for sure.

Also, for those BA's that will ask if my glass is clean, I poured a Mojo Risin' into the same glass I had Abrasive in, after rinsing it, of course, and there's tons of lacing on the glass. After I drank my Abrasive I could have placed it back in the cupboard and it would have at least appeared clean.

Opened a 1/12 can last night and it tasted as good as I remember. No noticeable carbonation issues (got a nice head).

You guys do know that any retailer worth their salt will return any defective product, right? You're acting like you have no recourse, I've taken old or defective product back every time I've encountered it without a problem.

So why doesn't Surly do the same? Because they know that 'Surly Nation' will keep buying flat and under-carbed beer and give them a pass, like many on here are doing.

That's the exact thought that passed through my mind reading this thread.

If it's a seam issue causing co2 to leak, then the cans are going to keep getting flatter? Should I not trade for this?

It seems as though you have already answered your own question.

I am on my second can of 1/9/15 from Total Wine in Roseville and both of them have been delicious with no carbonation issues. Definately worth the $14.99 I paid.

It sucks that a lot of people are having a bad experiences with Abrasive and 8, (myself included on the 8) and I think it would be nice if Surly did something nice for its supporters to help remind us why they are the #1 Craft Brewery in Minnesota.

I am personally willing to stick with them through their transition, but I hope they don't piss off too many customers by pushing these issues aside.

I am a fan of their beer. When they are on, they make awesome beers. When they are off they put it into an expensive Anniversary bottle that we don't have to buy if we don't want to. 6,7, and 8 are making me skip any further Anniversary bottles. I will give them a shot on tap, as 8 was delicious at ABR, but the bottle I had tasted like Brett had taken all of the flavor I loved on tap and funked it up.

I think we all deserve a better response from Surly about possible issues they may be experiencing during their move.

Was looking forward to this making an appearance in IA soon. May wait a bit till they get this carbonation issue resolved. Thanks for all the input on this thread.

1/12/15 01. First 2 were flat. Second 2 are being returned.

    I'm bummed.

For the people saying their beer was "flat", was it actually completely flat or just under carbed?

My one can so far was from 1/9. Tasted awesome. Minimal head retention and the body did not have the lively carbonation I'm used to, but was far from flat like say a HotD AftW '14.

Just curious if there are two separate issues here

My guess is it's the same issue. My two have been great, but seemed less carbonated than I'd expect. Others are fully flat. I don't regret my purchase one bit, and this is always a one four pack a season beer for me.So I'm satisfied.
