I bought a 6-pack of both, which is breaking with tradition for me (especially concerning the session IPA). Sam Adams is lucky that these are cheap, fresh, and new (along with the fact that I'm going to a 4-day gaming convention, where I will need the beer).

Picked up a very fresh sixer of the Rouser for $10...will let you know what I think this weekend!

you're mostly in the minority of IPA seekers imo. most fans of malt-forward tastes gravitate toward other styles, while hopheads obviously gravitate toward IPAs. SA's IPA offerings to date have muted hops imo, so I think it's pretty easy to understand why most fans of hoppy beers on BA wouldn't really be jumping in excitement over this release when there are offerings in most stores with a more flavorful hop profile.

IPAs and IIPAs are mainly the only styles that can satiate hop cravings. whereas if you're a fan of malts, there are stouts, porters, barleywines, winter warmers, and more to satiate that. or you could age a quality IPA for 3-4 months and you'll have plenty of malts :stuck_out_tongue:

I wish I was more into malt-heavy beers than those with a fresh hop taste. the former is a lot easier to find in stores!

I picked up 2 sixers of this earlier this week and I have to say it's certainly a delicious beer. Got a nice bit of citrus up front and a ton of pine that lingers on the palate. Certainly not the best DIPA money can buy, but for the price and considering Sam Adams wide availability, it's worth keeping some in the fridge.

    Cheers!

That is the deal .. and they wouldn't have to change the entire name but create an off-shoot brewery called something entirely different. Its not like the brewers CANT make a really good IPA or other beer they just choose not to.. these guys have years and years of experience. Hell, I make a really good pale ale half of the monkeys on this forum would buy and rave about. Its not that difficult.

Found this to be very mediocre.

It's definitely better than I expected and will be glad if I see it at many of the places that stock nothing but BMC with a couple taps of Sam Adams. Can't complain about that.

That's all Sam Adams is good for. I was kind of hoping they'd nail this one. Guess that was expecting too much.

Am I the only one who thinks Cold Snap is different this year ? I got a strong vanilla smell/flavor that I dont remember having last year.

It was OK. Just didn't have enough punch for me for a DIPA, IMO.

[IMG] Just had it and it is excellent and the price $10 for 8.4% a 6 pack an excellent price as you would expect.

No matter what you think their beers taste like.........BBC can make some beautiful looking beers.

Passed on it. Couldn't find a single bottle in the single section. Is BBC against this? Couldn't justify a six pack for $8, considering local beasts are the same price or very close to. I can't just throw money at anything

You got local DIPA's at $8 a sixer? that's rad!

That's why I was interested in this tbh, there aren't a lot options at that price point for DIPAs in CT. But for ~$1 more Wachusett larry is a much better option imo.

kingofhopI'm a fan of IPAs and find myself leaning more towards the malt forward and less bitter ones.

I don't really agree everyone and there brother and his friends make IPA. It is way harder to find a quality barleywine or stout.
