I walked into a store in the southwest burbs yesterday and they had about a case of BCBS behind the counter for $29.99/4pack. BM if you're interested in the store.

If anyone has a lead on a location in Chicago that has regular for sale please BM me. I was out of the country for the first wave and this alleged second wave is eluding me. I'm just looking for regular BCBS. Many thanks!

did BCBS Rare get keg'd? Happened upon an establishment that was claiming to have it on tap. I passed since I've never had Rare and am not confident that I would be able to tell if they were passing off the regular.

I think the confusion is that lots of bars will print Bourbon County Stout-Rare on the menu. Not that it is the actual Rare but more like "hey this beer is kind of rare and hard to get". It's been kegged but very few kegs were ever out there. In doubt? Ask to see the keg. It's probably regular plain old BCBS

How much would you pay for a bomber of rare at a bar?

it was $20 for what appeared to be not more than a 10 oz snifter. That was the only thing that had me thinking that maybe it was, but this wasn't really the kind of place that would get a super limited keg. I think they were pulling a fast one.

The days of $50 a bottle are long gone. Can't imagine what a new batch would go for nowadays.

I was in a bar last week (not one particularly known as a craft beer bar) and lo and behold they had Rare on the bottle list. It was $90 and my wife and I didn't hesitate. I never got a taste of it before. I thought it was a pretty fair price. And the beer was fantastic.

A couple years ago you could still find bottles of Rare for on site consumption around the city for an average price of $70. If I saw one for $90 I would consider that fair price and grab it to split if with friends.

As for that bar claiming Rare on tap, its ridiculously unlikely. Its been years since anyone but GI tapped Rare anywhere and that bar is not the kind of place to have ever received a keg. On top of that, they refused to show anyone the keg to prove it. I am alsp told that the owner has another bar that had a similar situation in which he lied about the beer on tap.

In my opinion that bar owner knowingly defrauded their customers and drastically overcharged them. Its shameful of any business and I will never set foot in there myself.

If it is the bar I mentioned it was definitely regular bourbon county. The owner is a pretty shady and unpleasant man and I would not recommend going to any of his bars.

    Hahaha.
Love this. I bought 2 bottles of Rare for $45.99 each, time of release, and thought that was a rip-off.

Do yall realize how much quality beer / bourbon / wine you can buy with $90?
This Barrel-Aged-Bullshit HAS to hit a wall at some point. I mean, it's not gonna be super cool forever, right?

Well you bought those bottles, rip off or not. Maybe $45 is too steep, I don't know. I do know that Pappy 23 barrels are likely very expensive and they aged the beer in them for 2 years. It would be interesting to know what it actually cost them to make a bottle, but clearly it had no problem selling.

I am judging the price now based on the original sell point of ~$50, the fact that a bar will have a certain amount of markup, and that the bar would have held onto that bottle for 4 years now. It is also very rare in itself to be found anywhere.
