Ill invite you down in May for my 30th. We are opening my 2011 bottle. There, see I am a cool guy.

As for aging the BT. I find I've only cellared my for about 6 months. Didn't change all that much vs fresh bottles at Bruery events. I know the heat was there on the 2010 and it smoothed a llittle bit. When I had the 2011 as a 4oz pour at Provisions it was very good.

    Cheers!

I do not advocate aging BT for more than a year. As the alcohol heat fades, cloying sweetness rides in. I did not enjoy '09 BT very much at all, it is diabetic. I prefer it fresh so that that alcoholic bite can mask some of the over the top sweetness. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority, but thus far no one has recommended you drink it fresh, which is really what you ought to do. See if you like it fresh, THEN commit to putting a bottle in the cellar.

I cracked an '09 BT this past Saturday and had it along with a '11 BT and everyone preferred the '09 over the '11.

That's because the 09 tasted like a stout in the vein of World Wide Stout or Dark Horizon 1st Edition while the '11 tasted like chocolate syrup spiked with everclear. No amount of time is going to make the 2011 BT a stout.

20 malts....20 malts. I have no idea why they changed the recipe after hitting a homerun. I still like hte 2011 though, it is pretty different from the 2009 though...

BT tastes absolutely nothing like BA Boris. For one thing, BA Boris is a good beer.

love the avator, bubbles is the shit! I think he was referring to the heat of the bourbon because I said I like some heat with my ba stouts

I've only had the 2011, but the bourbon wasn't very strong. The booze, however, was off the charts a la rubbing alcohol. Couple that with ridiculous sweetness and you have a fully shitty beer.

As for the stellar reviews, I can't explain it, but I'd guess it'd some combination of:
-I had a particularly vile bottle
    -2011 is a bad vintage
    -homerism and hyping
    -lemmings
-people who love big flavors over well integrated flavors
-distorted perception after trading way too much to obtain it
    -hyping again and trade value

Going to go with vile bottle. The one chance I've had to try BT was an '11, and the most remarkable thing about it was how well integrated all of the flavors were. And I'm from NorCal. I have no reason to hype SoCal beers that are virtually impossible to get my hands on.

I've had my 2011 in the cellar since acquiring it. I may put it on the list for this years Darkness Day table fare.

I am going to resurrect this thread. I have a 2014 bottle, when is the peak time I should be drinking this? Now or in a year or 2.

I have 2010 - 2014, interested too. Untappd suggests they are not getting any worse just yet, but curious what ppl who like BT think (if you think it's not good to begin with, chances are you won't magically like it aged)

Glad you gents resurrected this... Am fortunate enough to have 2 bottles but have friends with poor stamina for BAS, (Big Ass Stouts), so I'm wondering if a little time well make this a more do-able one man/all day kind of brew to enjoy. Cheers!

I had a '10 last year in a tasting with Rare and the '10 was drinking fantastic (IMO a little better than Rare)

I've got a 2011 original batch chocolate rain I'm hoping is aging well. I've kept it refrigerated.
