I'm flying up for a family vacation on Crystal Lake, but will have some time in Grand Rapids. I'm flying in Sunday July 1st and wanted to hit up a bottle shop...any suggestions? Also, I'm flying back home Sunday July 8th, but will actually be in Grand Rapids for the night of the 7th so I can check out Founders and other spots. Let me know if anybody wants to grab a beer or bottle share. If I get a decent response, I'll travel up with some bottles.

    Cheers,

    Bryan

Definitely go to Hopcat, not a bottleshop but a great selection of Michigan and Indiana locals on tap, and beer in general. I would consider it a must haha. Here's the info:
25 Ionia Avenue Southwest Grand Rapids, MI 49503
    (616) 451-4677

I would also say maybe consider the drive out to Bells if you're interested and have time. Not that far.

    Have a good trip!

I think International Beverage is the closest good bottle shop to the airport if convenience is a factor. Siciliano's Market is the most popular store but it's over on the west side of town. G. B. Russo is also fairly close to the airport.

Hopcat and Founders are the two must hits. Sicilianos will have the best beer selection for bottles. Bring some Cigar City with you and you will find people here willing to drink or trade with you.

Also, since you will be up at Crystal Lake consider these:

On the drive up from GR hit up Grunst Brothers in Big Rapids for bottles.
    Shorts in Bellaire
    Right Brain in Traverse City.

Thanks for the tips guys! I planned on bringing some CCB up with me, but if I knew I would run into some BAs...I would bring some good stuff:slight_smile: Should be fun either way and I'm excited to explore Grand Rapids.

Are they open in their new location yet?

If you have the inclination, Brewery Vivant is newish with some great Belgian styles and about the best food to be found in Grand Rapids. Not by Founders and Hopcat, but not that far a drive from them either.

925 Cherry Street Southeast Grand Rapids, MI 49506

If I were in GR, minutes from Hopcap/Founders/Vivant I would never drive down to Kalamazoo. If anything, head to Marshall, the home of one of Michigan's greatest breweries.

If you bring the good stuff the GR ba's will come out with the good stuff as well. My wife is due in 2 weeks so I can't commit to anything right now but will come out if I can.

Is Founder's bottle-sharing friendly? I'm sure they are, but I don't want to piss anybody off:slight_smile:

I was just up in TC last weekend, and Right Brain is not open yet. It sounds like they are running into some problems getting the new space up and running. I did hit up the new Filling Station brewpub in TC. They have some good pizza and decent beer (http://thefillingstationmicrobrewery.com/). Another solid TC option.

Well crap. I guess it isn't worth me traveling with bottles then.

Who says a bar is the only place to drink beer?
