Yep. And it would take less time (and probably money) to travel by train from Brussels to Duesseldorf/Koeln than it would to wait in line for a bottle of BCBS...but these folks don't do it. Oh well, indeed.

If we weren't finally going to Belgium (we've been to Bavaria 5 times - time to change it up a bit) I'd definitely be interested.

I haven't watched the video yet but I have definitely had pilsners served to me in tulip glasses before in Germany at a legitimate Kneipe. It's an accepted practice (scroll down in link).

I'm the same way -- as much as I love the "must see" places, I love the out-of-the-way (to some extent) spots in Munich. The Seehaus is a terrific spot that seems to be too far from the city center for tourists.

The last time (well, the only time) I went from Brussels to Düsseldorf by train it took all day. The tracks directly from Brussels to Düsseldorf were under construction so we had to go by way of Amsterdam. Then our train from Amstersdam to Düsseldorf broke down in a small station. We had to crowd onto another train that took us to another station in a bigger town (still in the Netherlands). From there we had to wait for busses to take us to Duisberg. From there we got a train to Düsseldorf. But at least I have a story to tell.

My neighbor picked up my BCBS for me, so, yeah, that took less time.

You can do a low-key Oktoberfest if you want. Go during the week closer to noon when the tents open, spend a lot of time walking around the grounds and just take it all in. Leave before people start getting too drunk.

I thought so, the video says the tall thin glass is the best way to serve a Pils rather than anything bad about the tulip style which is what I drink it out of.

I also like the Seehaus, although their prices are a bit steep and they dropped their Paulaner dunkel tap. Amazing view, though. Supposedly their restaurant is phenomenal. 5-6 years ago we watched some drunken Japanese tourists get into a married couple squabble and the wife threw her weissbier flute at her husband. They didn't seem to speak German or English, so the staff didn't seem to know what to do. Lots of scowls and gesturing but they eventually left.

Just down the path Hirschau is my hidden gem. They have Lowenbrau Urtyp, low prices, and the place is empty. It isn't quite as scenic as the Seehaus...but there's no reason you can't hit up both anyway.

Certainly you are not comparing BMC to contemporary German pilsner! Blasphemy! :stuck_out_tongue:

I honestly don't recall the prices, and it's a shame they dropped the Dunkel -- but that's the last place I was ever able to find an Amber Märzen in Munich.

One of my favorites too, but when I visited it was a Spaten venue. That's where I saw the 1930s Spaten poster by Hohlwein (same artist who created my avatar) I liked so much that I hunted down an original, hand-printed, lithograph from the era (I've posted an image of it in the past).

My above snarkiness aside, I would buy one each and report back to the group. Hopefully someone over in Deutschland will take one for the team.

    I'm assuming it won't be @Stahlsturm .

Ill take one for the team, Id rather spend what will probably amount to 3-5€ on 3 beers than the other atrocity by the likes of Brau Kunst Keller charging 14€ for a 33cl bottle of a barrel aged imperial stout... bc it has wax?
Sadly it seems there are a few breweries doing things right and semi adapting newer styles, and several going the omg rare wax and large format €€€, or we get corporate giants making pale ales.... I am so confused. I think I will just ruminate the demise of the world over some Weihenstephan and Rothaus tonight.

What I like about the new Becks craft beer: They put "Becks" on the label. Bitburger and Radeberger created new brands in their portfolio (Craftwerk, Braufactum) to hide their cb activities, or to avoid their name on a bottle of craft beer (might frighten regular drinkers?)
Becks cb is not on the market yet, but I will report.

I didn't know about braufactum I just had the Darkon this week nothing special especially for the price. As for Craftwerk I knew about and I'd take the HolyCowl over Westmalle triple if it weren't so expensive.
