Hearing from my friends in PA that they can only get a 4 pack, maybe 2 of cans, bottles are plentiful...cans are much less prevalent it seems.

same in NJ. cans disappeared instantly, yet I know of multiple stores with case upon case of bottles (to be fair the stores seemed to get far more cases of bottles, looked to be roughly a 4:1 bottle:can ratio)

That's what I'm seeing as well. In my small (1 store) sample size, they said they didn't order any cases of cans (maybe weren't allocated? I'm not sure...) But they had 10+ cases of bottles

Any sightings at any of the NYC Whole Foods? That would seriously make my weekend.

Nah i was in WF bowery last night, didn't have any. But if you go ~10blocks north to good beer, there is plenty. 1 week old.

The recipe hasn't changed. The brewing equipment and water source have. There are many beers that I don't think have declined in quality in the same time period, while others do (Hopslam, Pliny, etc.). Those still taste as good to me now as they did 5 years ago. To me though, NN is a shell of its former self. Still a solid beer.

Yeah, differing opinions are fine. It just seems unreasonable for everyone to assume that Tröegs (and many other breweries) have been decreasing quality control each year for their special releases.

When Occam's razor suggests otherwise - that people just get used to the taste, or that the overall quality level of the whole craft beer industry has risen, and therefore those beers don't stand out as much anymore.

Yeah, same in NJ..my local shop got 15 cases bottles and 2 cases cans.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I really could not care less what vessel my beer is coming from. It's going into a glass regardless....

beautiful use of Occam's razor! See BA is populated by an educated group of consumers.

I actually do ever since I discovered that a beer changes - sometimes dramatically - when drank straight from the can. Bottle, not so much.

Cans are much more portable - easier to travel with, dispose of. And some places don't allow bottles. I like cans because you can take them to the beach or tubing; and anything that is canned can be sold in stadiums or arenas.

Cans are easier to ship. They weigh less, so reduce shipping costs; take up less room and are less prone to shattering/ breaking during shipping.

Changes dramatically for the better or the worse?

In some instances, I definitely like cans. Such as All Day, I'll bring 15 of those to a camping trip or party. But I'm not going camping or hiking in the next few months so which vessel Nugget Nectar is in doesn't matter to me.

I don't think they even allow cans in stadiums up here. They pretty much just pour it into a cup for you and dispose of whatever it came out of.

Fair on the cans being easier to ship. I was thankful for that when I used to trade.

No beer for me has ever been better out of the can than a glass, not even Heady. It may smell better when just smelling the beer but when I'm actually drinking it all I'm getting is metal. Better than the bottle? Of course...there's at least some room for the beer's nose to come through.

Of course, time and a place for everything. I'll be drinking Nooners from the can all summer.

oh, good question since I didn't clarify...often for the better, aka Beast Mode. When the beer is already awesome to my palate (077xx, Heady, etc.), it often just takes on a different, equally awesome taste. 077xx for example is seriously creamy right out of the can.

Decided to take the subway because of your post and Lo and behold...they have a lot of NN. All bottles. 1/20. Found a few other beers there, too. Thanks.
