Bengali is really good and Hi-Res is great. I had bought Sensi Harvest and thought it was awful...thin, oniony, garlic water. Decent reviews on it, so I guess it's just not my thing. @Sixpoint took the time to personally respond to me with the name of the local Virginia rep and recommended I try the other beers, I did and they were very good. I like the cans, I really like the company, and some of the beers are great (Hi Res).

Just finished a Hi Res. Great IPA with a lot of citrus taste, very clean.

3 Beans was excellent. I had it on exactly one occasion and then discovered it had been discontinued. Shit.

FINALLY tried my first Hi-Res last night; I've always been a big fan of Resin, so this has been on my list for a while.

It was awesome. It has such a good crisp, clear fresh hop taste to it. Very impressed. Hi-Res is definitely #1 from Sixpoint, in my opinion.

I have been enjoying Sixpoint since early 2005 and living less than a few miles from the brewery during almost all of that time. At one point I went about 2 years where I was drinking their stuff about 95% of the time.

    1. Diesel [This should be in their year-round offering!]
    2. Sweet Action
    3. Hi-Res
    4. 3 Beans

I don't get the sixpoint hype or fanbois. Most of their beers are average to below average to me with the exception of 3beans which I thought was great. Everything else was either grossly overpriced for what it was or poorly-crafted.

    And I'm a huge hophead.

Hi-Res was phenomenal. That is an underrated beer. 10.5% too. I don't know if I was drunk or what but I was thinking to myself, this might be better than Pliny.

Of the Sixpoint beers on BA, Beast Mode has the lowest score.

I just read the reviews of Beast Mode for the first time (honest Shane).

Below are some excerpts from the latest reviews posted:

“I wouldn't really call this a porter; it was more of a hoppy brown. I would have appreciated more roasted notes.”

“Hoppy brown ale, not really a porter.”

“This was on draft and in cans at The Auricle in Canton, Ohio as of Monday the 26th of January. Being a porter fan I had to try it. Was a bit disappointed in it. I am a true hophed so the grassy and hoppy tones kinda threw me off.”

In my opinion the less than stellar score values for Beast Mode is due to ‘confusion’ on the various beer drinkers parts. They saw the word “Porter” and therefore their palates were engaged to expect what their perceptions of a Porter should be. When to their ‘surprise’ they beer did not match their preconceived expectations then lower scoring ensued.

There is a challenging task ahead to educate the consumers onwhat Beast Mode is but IMO it is a worthy endeavor to make for such an excellent beer.

    Cheers!

    like hops much? ;-)

no worries mate - look for a "special" release later this year....

    But not in one sitting...

thanks bro - will be cool to see how you feel about the 2016, 2017, 2018, etc.

    old school!

    did you try Bengali?

agreed - that is my "go-to" lately - the more people bi*tch about it, the more I drink it! :-)

    agreed

Glad to hear that you are in the minority here, otherwise we'd be in big trouble. :-) That being said, I'm confident there is a beer for you, especially if you are a hophead. Let's set up a tasting of some special stuff we are working on...

thanks man - enjoy it while you can!

Which makes me like it even more. :-)

exactly - people judge beers based upon style guidelines, which is a farce IMHO, it should be judged based upon enjoyment. That being said, it is our duty to properly "prepare" the customer - but we cannot be charged with the responsibility to get people to think for themselves. We certainly encourage it though!

We are not going to remove the 'PORTER' descriptor - but we will continue to show people what a porter can taste like - in 2015 and beyond ;-)

    cheers

James (@jRocco2021), it looks like you won't be winning that Sixpoint can shaped glass. Sucks for you.:slight_frown:

Had Bengali once and didn't have a great experience, but I just picked up some hi-res and I think it's absolutely top-notch (actually sipping on one right now).

On a side note, I checked Hi-Res in on Untappd this morning (forgot to do it last night), but I accidentally checked in 2014 HI-Res without realizing it. Within the hour, Sixpoint's account messaged me asking if it was 2014 or 2015. Awesome to know they are so on top of making sure year old cans aren't selling somewhere. I'll be checking out more of their beers from now on.
