It's a shame when somebody's business fails, but their beer just wasn't that great. Also I don't think their brand was very strong or unique. While I thought Phat DJ tasted decent...that name....I just don't understand the thought behind that name.

I also was wondering how much longer Fort Bend would make it. Their beer simply was not good.

Fort Bend was starting to improve, and so it's a shame the time ran out. Meanwhile, breweries like Texas Big Beer live on...

But they have the most professional wax jobs! And don't forget the Queens Limited Release, such a whale, oh my god you can fetch Double Barrel Huna with that

Unfortunately it was too little, too late. Even if it had started to improve, many of those (like myself) who had tried their first offerings were not going to try it again.

You are thinking Texas Big Beer....not Fort Bend. Don't worry, you can still go whale fishing with the queen.

Yes, my comment was fully pointed toward Texas Big Beer, not Fort Bend. I see now that what I said wasn't entirely clear

So is it official that Fort Bend is closing/has closed? If so, do you have a link?

    Thanks,

Same here. I too quit on them early on. I was sooo looking forward to them being successful as they are close by and wanted a craft brewery around here. Was disappointed in their brews and was amazed to see it in stacks of bottles in all the local grocery stores from the beginning before it even got close to being a good product. They must have lost a ton of money.

I do not think it helped using those terrible 6 pack holders at the beginning either.

Well, it's official. Fort Bend has ceased operations. I just received the tweet. It's posted on their Facebook page , too.

I'm bummed as it was close for a Saturday afternoon and their beer wasn't bad. It wasn't great and noteworthy but not bad by my definition.

The included comment about the cynics and disparagers really bothers me. There is plenty of room for beer here in Houston and if you brew a high quality product, you should see growth. The fact of the matter is that their beer simply was not as good as the other offerings out there. By including that statement they are trying to blame shift and are not learning from their mistakes. For the past six months their shelf space at HEB and Specs continued to dwindle. The only reason this happens is due to product not moving. Compare that to the shelf space given to Saint Arnold, Karbach and even No Label and Southern Star.

For anyone who doesn't have Facebook:

Fort Bend Brewing Company Ceases Operations…

Due to various circumstances, it is with regret we must inform you that Fort Bend Brewing Company ceased brewing operations December 30th, 2014, and permanently closed on January 31st, 2015.

FBBC has been brewing high quality beers for over 2 years, and has been a proud contributor to many activities and charities in the local community. We gave it all we had to build a brand that we were proud of.

For all our cynics and disparagers, you know who you are, well, my mother taught me if I don’t have anything good to say about someone, then don’t say anything at all – enough said..

To all of our supportive retailers and patrons, we sincerely thank you for your support during the past years, you made it worthwhile. To our awesome volunteers, we couldn’t have done it without you. With the warmest gratitude from the bottom of our heart, thank you, we will miss you.

    On to the next chapter….

You have people driving halfway across Texas to buy jester king and freetail wild ales. I know these products are not easy to make but that's what the consumers are saying they want to purchase. I sure hope all these breweries that are opening up are not planning to get by on Blond Ales and average stouts. If so it will be like someone said earlier there's going to be a lot of Extra homebrewing equipment available.

Technically the people driving halfway across the state for JK wild ales are the same people over and over again. The population that demands wild ales is still a small fraction in the beer drinking community. They have a high demand because there are not a lot of breweries that make them well. Having never had any of Fort Bend's beers I can't comment on their ability to brew, but what gets me is that they seem to think the reason they failed was not because they made bad beer, but because people's pallets couldn't see their genius.

So, kind of on topic, what is Texian up to? I bought their English IPA and had the same over carbonation issue that everyone else did and I have not seen it on shelves anywhere since. Makes me wonder how long they can maintain that.

Fixed: Due to one circumstance: Lack of sales....

I totally agree that the blame shift really changed the whole tone of their message.

I thought that part of the point of the beer rating system on here was to give honest feedback, on either side, good or bad. If they couldn't deal with the fact that some people really didn't like their beer, they were in the wrong business to start. I've been to many breweries, and the successful brewers that I've had the privilege to speak with, said that in this business one tends to need thick skin, because not everyone is always going to like every beer you make. Just the way it is.
