Hi all, I'm finally making it to SLC for the first time in just a little bit, and it looks like I won't have a huge amount of free time to get out and find good beer. I've been digging through the places listed on here and come up with a few options that would work for me, but I'd love some recommendations in terms of "if you've only got time to visit one, you should make it X". Beerhive, Red Rock, and Squatters are the primary contenders. I'll probably be looking for a decent (nothing fancy, but not bad) meal in addition to some quality brew. I like trying the local offerings just as much as whatever people seem to be clamoring for nationwide, so I don't have a preference in regard to quality local beer versus bigger, better known names. Mostly, I just like trying new things; brews that I won't have on the shelf when I get back to the east coast. I mean...when in Rome, right? Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions/tips!
IMO Epic is the easily the best brewery in SLC. However, it's been a while since I was there and at the time the food options were very limited. If you want food and grub I suggest Squatters. Cheers.
Best beer is at Epic, I always liked the food at Red Rock, the Bayou is probably the best beer bar. Beerhive, Red Rock and Squatters are all within easy walking distance of each other so you can check them out before committing. Epic and the Bayou are also only a couple blocks apart, but a hike from the other places mentioned.
I'd only be focusing on places within my zip code. But Epic looks like it's not that far away, and I'll have a bike. How are the roads? I'm set for cold, but do the shoulders get slick easily?
Downtown SLC is not the best place to be cycling, regardless of weather. I won't try to predict road conditions, but would generally be ok 80-90% of the time. Epic and Bayou are roughly a mile from the 3 options further north. There is bus and train service but if I remember correctly it shuts down pretty early (haven't been back in awhile, might be better now). It's often just as fast to walk anyway.
I'm doing the same trip out Monday. Ho is Beer Bar? It was on Draft Magazine's Top 100 this year, but I see few reviews.
I'm in town for a few days visiting my dad in the hospital (ski accident he'll be fine), have some HF and Jackie O's in my suitcase... small bottle share anyone?
Look for a lot of Northwest brews. The tap selection is 90% percent local beers ans ciders. Belgian selection is pretty good, a few sour selections as well. It's not a massive beer list (100+) but there's a lot of quality stuff. Prost!
