Agreed. I've had Pliny several times on tap and from relatively fresh bottles and while I respect it for what it is, I prefer Abrasive. I've had 2 cans of HT last summer and I was not impressed. I'd like to make sure I'm getting super fresh cans before I say I prefer Abrasive over HT. I've also never had King Sue, but I'm guessing it's in the running.

David is/was the best. That beer was on yet a whole new level IMO. King Sue was amazing, Sosus gets a nod from me, Abrasive right up there too. And then there is Double Sunshine, Heady, PtY, Abner, Project Dank, etc. You really start splitting hairs with all of the great DIPA's out there though. And as for the low carb issue with Abrasive, Iv had 8 maybe 9 cans from 8 or 9 different 4 packs now and have had zero issues. Cans with dates of 1/9, 1/10, 1/13 If memory serves. All were spectacular.

Just had two cans dated 1/23/15 and they were delicious with perfect carbonation and a rich creamy head. It looks like I'll be able to drink the sh$$t out of one of my favorite double IPAs after all!

Still getting nice lacing on the tulip an hour into a 1/23 can. The stickiest delish!

Just purchased a 4pack from Princetons. Aggresive pour and after 1 sip carb did seem low but tastes great though!

Opened my 3rd can from a 4 pack with a 1/12 canning date last night. All three have had very low carbonation even with an aggressive pour. While good all three cans have lacked the aggressive "punch" (in both nose and flavor) I am used to with Abrasive and can only assume this is directly related to the carb issue.

Never had the pleasure of Heady or Pliny but have always put Abrasive a notch above some other great IIPA's like Hopslam, Dreadnaught, Double Trouble or Myrcenary. If these three cans were my only exposure to Abrasive that would not be the case.

Don't feel the need to expect a refund but will email Surly and relate my experience.

Grabbed a flat from Blue Mound Liquor in Luverne. 1/23/15 can date. Big time difference in the carbonation. I still have a few left from the 1/13/15 batch and I'm going to pour them side by side to take a picture of the difference. I will still say that the taste has been great in either case.

My 01/23 cans are drinking as good as Abrasive have ever drank. Going back to Insurrection though.

Had my first Insurrection tonight and it's nowhere close to Abrasive. Ya'll are crazy.

I agree, however you cannot really compare the flavor profiles of abrasive and insurrection. completely different experience

It's easy. Beer is trendy and there are enough suckers with disposable income to chase all this stuff without really knowing what it is.

Thanks for sharing, personally I would drink it a little slower though just to savor that great beer, considering I'm lucky to get a 4 pack in year.:sunglasses:
