1:1 I would say about $20 worth of semi limited beer or really good locals but nothing as limited as what you mentioned.

Probably not much. It's shelf beer in a lot of the country.

Yeah, not much.. It's a fantastic beer though, and if it's the Squared version, slightly better, and limited, but won't bring in those beers you mention on trading alone.

Thanks for the help. Yea my friend just texted me and said it was pretty common. Do you think I would get a Mexican cake for it ?

It is one of the more common shelf sours available so it would probably not trade for a once-a-year release. You would more be looking at other good shelf goodies, maybe Zombie Dust, Nugget Nectar, Almanac stuff, Terrapin but that is only if those traders don't have access to it because of distro...to help I was able to grab a growler of Tilquin gueuze in Huntsville, Alabama and see bottles of it regularly in the Chicago area.

It's readily available all over SC so my guess is you wouldn't pull a mexican cake for it. I'd target some locals

Highly doubtful, and leaning towards no.

You don't mention the bottle size in your post, but it comes in both 375ml and 750ml. In SoCal, I see the 375ml bottles sell for about $10.

I think it gets distro in a wide amount of places, it's a shelf beer in Birmingham. We don't get bad distro, but not as many things as other places obviously.

Amazes me this is a shelf beer in so many places. IMO it is just as good as Cantillon and Drie and those sell immediately when they hit the shelf. I don't mind cause then I can find it even in WA.

I'm with you, I think it's a great beer. Particularly the squared version

I think it just has to do with the price and availability. If something is limited, it's going to get hype because people want what they don't have. Don't get me wrong I love Cantillon beers, but I like 3F much better and there are just comparable beers to those rare things that are just as good if not better. Had a side by side of Fou, West Ashley, and De Garde Apricot Bu and I thought the Bu was the best one. Also something to be said about beers from Belgium too that aren't distro'd many places.

I don't think the Squared version is a shelf beer anywhere though

And as others mentioned, Tilquin is excellent and on par with 3F and Cantillon. So is Cuvee Renee

I would doubt it is still anywhere in the US. Agreed that it is a fantastic beer, unfortunate that is one that will be almost impossible to reproduce.

At $20 a bottle it is a reasonable value considering what most breweries are charging for their sours these days. The reg Gueuze ages beautifully too!

Given that it doesn't trade due to wide distro, I'd tell your friend to hang on to them and age them until he gets into sours. It will happen and he will be thankful to have some nicely aged gueuze when it does.
