My understanding was that Mikkeller was more phantom than gypsy. http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...them-and-whats-up-to-the-other-brewery.40333/
"The host brewery brews the recipe to Mikkel's standards, and he pays for the ingredients, labor, space, transportation, etc. If it's a particularly complicated recipe Mikkel will supervise/assist the first time around and he may sample barrels to see if they're ready, although it really depends on his travel schedule. At this stage though, a lot of the beers are made without Mikkel's presence at all."

Well yes I do believe he bought it or at least that's how it was reported on CBS.
    http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/oktoberfest-on-the-early-show
Also if you watch the other video I posted about tasting the presidents beer at New Glarus Deb Carey tells us a bit more about his involvement in the brewing process.

To me its an appropriate parallel though the head brewers don't always do everything other employees that work at the brewery have ideas as to what should be brewed and get to make a beer and have their own recipes. I am a CNC machinist by trade I make what engineers conceive out of metal and plastic because they can't but if you ask them who made it they aren't gonna say me. I don't disagree that "homebrewer" is an inappropriate term for what Obama does I just think this is a product of the english language itself rather than of giving credit when non is due.

Ha. That's what I get for responding on my phone the morning after the Super Bowl. Tagged that I had a response and brought me to that post, but it must have been up one line. My bad.

it's all good in the hood. i'm enjoying the spirited back & forth. i know, for myself, i took your post to be tongue in cheek. a couple of the others that i suspect might try to be passed off as just ribbing sound a lot more like personal haterism & pure political slant/rant. that said, i love the internet. it let's one glimpse how their neighbors truly think & feel.

My error. I know the POTUS has to pay for his own food (official dinners are excluded) but I assumed that kitchen equipment is supplied. So if he wants the chef to use a kitchen utensil that isn't in the inventory, he has to buy it himself?

"Sorry, boss. We don't have any bacon bowl makers in the kitchen. If you have a $20 on ya, I'll stop by Wal-Mart and pick one up."

I found that fact to be interesting as well where is the threshold for what he has to buy versus what the staff has to buy? even though the staff is the one using it in either case.

Without a shred of documentation, probably most of the early ones, it was a very common thing to do in those days; Washington and Jefferson at the very least (source: Yards Ales of the Revolution)

Northern Brewer had a White House Honey Ale kit a while back, based off a beer they made with a brewer and a bee-keeper who worked at the White House. I got it as a Christmas gift from my wife 2 years back, and it is indeed a good recipe!

Washington never lived in the White House, so that one's out. Never heard anything about Jefferson brewing on site, but that obviously doesn't mean he didn't.

Well yeah, I guess I was answering if presidents brewed, more so than if it took place at 1600 PA Ave.
