I know that Cellars in Eagan pulled theirs off of the shelf. I wonder if the other retailers did the same.

Good for Eagan Cellars (a phrase I never thought I'd say). I was at three reputable stores in the South Metro last night alone that still had all 1/13/15 & 1/9/15 in the coolers. I told the two that were interested why I wasn't buying it...one guy even argued with me ("I've had eight & they've all been great, not sure why you wouldn't buy them!"). It'll be interesting to see how long these canning dates sit. I doubt anyone on these boards would buy them at this point, but as we know, we're a tiny minority of the beer purchasing public.

There's been no indication that Surly has identified the problem or even a problem based on their ongoing communication here. Therefore, why would the 1/23 canning be any better than ones the week previous to it?

No reason for 1/23 being different from other dates except for I don't think anyone has reported any issues with the 1/23 canning so right now it looks safe to buy.

Am I the only one who thinks this years Abrasive is not as good as last years? It looks more filtered then I recall and not as juicy/tropical? I hope the new brewery doesn't cause all their beers will become more filtered. Being from VT I prefer super hazy for maximum flavor and I believe it helps IPAs hold up better over time. I wouldn't be surprised if this years Abrasive doesn't stand the test of time as it has in the past.

@SurlyMan So, people seem to be happy with the 1/23 canning. As far as I am aware there has been an announcement of what happened with the initial few cannings. Is there any word on what happened? If we are to order more Abrasive will we be buying with confidence that the product is as intended?

Every can of a 1/23 batch that I bought was as flat as Lara Flynn Boyle.

Now I know why tap pours of this are being priced as though it was a barrel aged one-off that may never be seen again. Tap is the only fucking way to get real Abrasive.

If they're only brewing this through this month it's looking like a lost year.

Still haven't encountered a flat can and I've drank over a case worth now. 1/9... 1/13... 1/23... all completely fine.

I believe you. Consider yourself extremely lucky, being the owner of the company has been on this thread and admitted a prob with the early batches. The 4-pack I had from the 1/13 batch ran from really flat to OK to great. This last pack I got from 1/23 is all really flat.

I knows there's kinks to be worked out but I have contacted the brewery.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Looks like there might still be issues. I had a bunch of cans from 1/09 batch, most just OK, a bunch flat, and a few great.

If you look back, it sounds like the first run of cans dated 1/9 - 1/13 are those that may have issues (as well as some undated cans, possibly).

    Me three.
I read somewhere in here that someone drain poured their Abrasive. That's just ridiculous.
