I asked this question last week before the forums went down.

I found one of my favourite beers the other day in an extremely unlikely place: my favourite chocolate shop's new caramel. (Red Hill Imperial Stout)

Where have you found one of your favourite beers in a place that you weren't expecting at all? Hotel room? local produce store? At a nice restaurant in their bread?

I found Barrel Aged Old Rasputin XIV at a kitchen store. They have a good beer selection actaully, but not many shoppers in there know what they're seeing. Bought two bottles.

Very nice! Unfortunately the beer wasn't available to buy.
One of the first things I thought though was: "Where are they getting this beer from, and how come I can't buy any!" - it's currently not available anywhere as it's the middle of summer here and they don't brew it again for a while.

There was a frat bar near me that I was meeting an old friend at and they actually had bottles of KBS. I was shocked because I had been running around everywhere to try to get some to no avail and this was like a month after the release. Totally worth putting up with all the guys bro-ing out

It's about $10 a 4-pack here in Wisconsin. That sounds like a hell of a deal!

Went into a pizza pub on a pint special night where 32oz glasses were the same price as 16oz and found KBS on tap. 32oz of KBS for $6.

Went back in December and found bottles of Blushing Monk, long after stores had sold out.

yeah i was pretty psyched, this was before philly got the bottles too. i think it's like $5 for a single right now, if it was $10 for a 4pack i'd definitely be buying it regularly.

Found 3F Malvasia Rosso when I was checking out the shelf with 3F Sharbeekse Kriek in a shop in Copenhagen. Looks like someone didn't see the difference in the labels and just put them at the same place. I was happy :grinning:

Walked into a gas station to fill up and ended up walking out with 3 750ml bottles of Russian River Consecration

Went to a sports bar type deal with my wife and couple of our friends expecting I would just get some boston lager on tap (never a bad thing) but we got there and saw their beer list full of pretty good things; two-hearted, dfh 60 and 90, some abita choices, and some flying dog. Not the best beer list but for a sports bar pretty solid.

Not sure this is true anymore, but one of the best spots to find good beer in Wrigley Field a few years ago was the Dunkin Donuts shop on the main level behind home plate. They had a drinks cooler and were the only ones with Goose Island.

Last year on a whim I decided to stop in a little party store (that's liquor/convenience store in Michigan speak) that I'd past 100 times over the years. I felt like I had stepped into 2008. I found '08-'09 Brooklyn BCS, 2008 Brooklyn Monster, Big Black Voodoo Daddy (no longer distributed here) and the big one a 2004 Dogfish Head World Wide Stout. They had a whole slew of other old bottles as well, honestly I don't think anything in the store was fresh. But despite being store aged that 2004 WWS is to this day one of the best beers I've ever had.

Happened upon Pliny on sale for $3 a pint at a dump of a sports bar in San Fran recently, and my favorite place to find unusual beers is actually a gas station in a crappy part of town that happens to have an owner who is a total beer freak - one of the best selections in town, and you'd never know it from the outside.

Blatant Session Ale just tapped at Scoozi Boston on Commonwealth Ave. They are adding more craft beer taps tomorrow: Pretty Things and Jack's Abby Can't wait!

Went into a tiny little shop in central illinois a few months back, the kind of small shop that has an old style sign above the door and bars on the windows. I figured the best I'd be able to purchase would be Sam Adams or equivalent. They had 2008 Schlafly Barrel Aged Imp Stout and 2008 Schlafly Oak Aged Barleywine...Good Stuff.
