They've held this in the past. The first go around they wanted to give the beer away to folks who brought in macro stuff but then were told they couldn't give beer away and thus the 1cent thing was done.

Jimmy's a great guy, but with the Macro/Bud thing going and this getting a lot of press, I imagine it's going to be very very cluttered.

Is this for charity? I thought under California Liquior laws you couldn't charge less than what you paid for a beer.

    It's a trade!

Edit: And yes for charity, Beer Belly is doing a charitable service in helping others rid themselves of piss in a can/bottle for a penny.

If that was true, this would be a big problem for BevMo's 5 cent sale, no?

It is 100% true. BevMo's 5 cent sale works because you are paying for one bottle where the mark up is typically going to be enough to cover two bottles. I manage a bar.

I had the same exact thought.

that's why I have yet to take part of it when they had it in the past. I don't have bad/crap beer. So to exchange it I would have to buy it... which defeats the purpose of it all.

Besides, I know Jimmy well enough that it's not like I'm doing anything but trading bad beer for good, and unless I'm really trying to convert someone /which I wouldn't want to anyway, then it's just pointless.

Sorry, not 100% true. A liquor store can charge whatever they want, just can't give it away for free. I help manage the beer side of a shop, and if I want to sell an 18pk of Budweiser for 99 cents, I can do so.
