I think the tropical fruit flavors of Habanero would work well with the Sculpin hop bill.

 

That's what I was picturing too, but this is, as the kids say, a habanero bomb. It truly is just too hot and overwhelms the base beer. I will say that it gets better as it warms, or maybe my palate was just scorched from the first few sips. Lacked the fruit flavor of a habanero, but had all of the heat.

 

I was excited to grab a 5 dollar sixer of Saga at Zipps.

This is obviously complete speculation, but something isn't right about this. Lots of pils flavor and minimal hop presence. They are dated Enjoy By May 11.

 

Doesn't that describe how Saga always tastes?

 

Maybe they filled on Surly's new bottling line.

I have heard it suggested that mixing habanero and grapefruit is the way to go. Haven't tried it, but sounds like a winner to me!

 

for those looking for Noble Star bottles, Haskells in Minnetonka still has Dawn of Aurora, Black Forest Cherry and North Country Brunette. seems like most Haskells still have all three of these. if you are in search of Frambroise Du Nord, just spotted it at the Muni in Wayzata. Muni also had VaS and Grapefruit Sculpin.

 

I haven't had the grapefruit (although I've heard great things), but I'll chime in on the hananero. It was one of the least enjoyable things I've ever drank. Pure spicy heat.

 

Haskell's in Stillwater had a few bottles last night.

Just picked up some Grapefruit Sculpin, thanks for the tip. Also grabbed a straggler bottle of Gillian which I am currently taking to the dome.

 

hah. saw that there too. 2013 bottle. funny thing, have never noticed it there until today. was tempted.

they moved around their bomber selection and made one cooler for wine, so maybe it was old stock they decided to finally throw on the shelf as they moved things around.
