Couldn't agree more. Very disappointed in this beer. I don't know what beer some of these other guys are drinking when they describe it as having big hop character. I'll be giving away my 3 others.

Different palates and expectations I suppose. Considering the ABV I find it hides the "booziness" quite well. And with all that malt it's obviously not going to be as dry as a 8% IPA but I'd describe as packing a lot of hop flavor without being bracingly bitter.

Kays wine had a bunch as of yesterday as well. On a side note, Good amount of Troegs nugget nectar 6pk bottles and cans there too! Yeah hve to agree I think sixpoint did a great job with Hi-Res- it is very drinkable for the Abv with a great hop profile..

I'm not saying it's badly made or anything. It's just not a beer that I enjoy. I don't tend to like overly malty IPAs to begin with, and then I really don't enjoy "resinous" hops versus those that are more citrus or floral focused. So I'll be giving mine away as well.

I'll be right over. I like 'em malty, citrusy and/or piney. It's all good.

This is from a May '14 update of my BA review of last year's Hi-Res (I had more or less accidentally put a fourpack aside for a few months): overall: Not the hop bomb it was fresher, but now a very pleasingly flavorful DIPA still worth the premium price. No ratings were changed. Sixpoint, you should keep making this one, it's a wunderbeer!

From the comments in this thread, I'm wondering if the "tweaking" Sixpoint said they did to Hi-Res involved making it a little less high, reswise, so that the malt stands out a bit more. I know many BAs do not like DIPAs with what they consider to be too much malt presence distracting from the hop flavors. I got a sense here that not as many were happy with the new version, but perhaps the disappointed ones just stand out more. Certainly there is a lot to indicate that it's a brew worth pursuing, not to say going on an expedition until some turns up.

    have you tried Bengali recently?

awesome - yes the perfume character is definitely a result of the hop blend for the aromatics...

feedback on our end from customers is that the '15 is unanimously better received and more positively reviewed than the '14 - interesting is that it tested out as more hoppy on a lab basis than the '14 - so much so that we were concerned when releasing it that people would be too turned off by how bitter it was - personally shocked to see people saying its too malty!

    cheers

I know that's not what you meant which is why I say different palates. I appreciate that you aren't one of those people on here that say, "This beer sucks!" when they really mean "I don't like the way it tastes but it is still made well". Either way cheers!

Great point. As brewers, we are not trying to please everyone either. "when you try to please everyone, you please no one."

It sometimes is enjoyable to see people have intense reactions to our beer (whether good or bad). It means we struck a nerve. In our opinion, that is way better than people being indifferent about them.
