I'm all for replacing an artificial ingredient with a natural one. But these guys know that alcohol causes cancer, right?

Well, it's a move in the right direction for Newcastle Brown and big breweries in general, and that's something to be celebrated in itself, regardless of whether you drink the beer or not. I don't buy Newcastle for home stocking anymore, but I'd feel a little better about ordering a pint in a pinch now.

I don't think the point to most craft beer lovers is that the food coloring will kill us. How many of us drink beer because it is good for us? The point is: Adding food coloring to attain a desired hue is cheating. Let the true colors of the malts shine through!

I haven't had Newcastle Brown in a really, really long time. I noticed they're releasing a variety pack next month (brown, English pale, session IPA) so maybe I'll grab one, death chemical or no death chemical.

Caramel-gate. Somehow I feel Bill Belichick is behind this.

Foster's Ale, from the Oil Can Brewery in GA (whoever owns that) adds "caramel" color to it. I've drank it for decades and I ain't dead yet. Yet.

I see from the picture HeislerGold posted that Heineken are claiming Newcastle is real ale. They’d be chased down the street if they tried to sell that variety pack in the UK. In fact, none of those beers except Brown exist in the UK.

Yeah...I'd rather have Bass than Pewcastle Frown Ale:slight_frown:

I realize the extent of British beer we get here is mostly Samuel Smith, Fuller's, Guinness or Old Speckled Hen etc. Bottles or cans. I realize a cask-conditioned ale available in Liverpool is world's apart from what we get here. But why is Newcastle not "real ale"? Is it fake? C'mon man. Let us fill our pints to the plimsoll line and toast our forebearers from the Island Nation!

So they took out the shit that might give us cancer. They have known that for decades. Today...we should run out and buy it right? NO!.

Because CAMRA coined the term "real ale" to refer to something specific.

I'm still honestly surprised people on this website care about beers like Newcastle. I just feel like if I was the type of guy to like Newcastle, I wouldn't care enough about beer to be on BA. *shrugs*
