I've taken my kid to Rattle N Hum, which is a really great place right near you and they were very welcoming. Keep in mind that I brought him in the middle of the weekday when the place was basically empty. Don't attempt this past 5pm. Ditto (but to a lesser extent) with Beer Culture - which is a smaller bar/shop option. (Beyond the meeting with kids, try Beer Culture if you happen to need a place to buy bottles in walking distance).

as others have said, rattle n hum and most other bars shld be fine to bring kids before 5p. after that, im not sure they'd even be allowed inside.

Let me add that given how close you are, Rattle N Hum is a must for at least a nightcap if you are here long enough. Check beermenus to see what's on tap at any decent place near you. Opinions are mixed on this spot, but Ginger Man is my favorite bar in the area. Keep in mind that prices are high in NYC and the post work rush can make any hot spot too crowded to enjoy between 5 and dinner. Drinking beer in that part of town is lovely in the middle of the day or at night.

I've never been, but the Yelp listing for Route 66 Smokehouse way downtown says it's good for kids.

you don't have restaurants with craft beer? We have them all over town in LA

I'd say they're more on the gastropub side of things

NY has plenty of options in this regard. Beer is all over. From super fine dining to lunch joints. If you're not against taking an easy subway ride across the water, John Brown Smokehouse would be a great place to go with kids and have some nice barbeque (if you aren't vegetarian). It's more of a laid back hole in wall than a formal restaurant (it's also better in the warmer months with it's backyard). It gets some great beer. Once again, check beermenus ahead of time to see if you want what they're pouring.

Thanks very much guys. Now onto the good stuff. Best of the best of Manhattan without kids?!? I need to find the nicest beer and best gastropubs. I know Torst so and will do that but need some in manny too.

Blind Tiger is always up there for best beer bars in the city, along with Rattle N Hum and Ginger Man. The Jeffery/Fools Gold both have the same owner and generally get a lot of really good beers in (both had HF on tap recently). Pony Bar is probably the cheapest (all beers are $6, but pour sizes vary) that gets good stuff in. I'd say it really depends on the given day, and your best bet would be to put together a list of 10ish spots and just check beermenus that day to see what fits your tastes the best.

I wouldn't think Blind Tiger would be a good place to take kids, unless you're talking weekday afternoon. Also I don't go to either Pony bars much (prefer the west side one), but I wouldn't think of them as being kid-friendly.

But perhaps someone who has kids has a better idea on these places.

I prefer the west side one, but they're fairly similar.

Ginger Man and the Jeffrey are my favorites, but hopefully you get there earlier or later as they are pretty busy during prime hours. Proletariat gets pretty interesting stuff, but not as extensive a list as the others mentioned.

depends what youre looking for. If you're looking for a bar with things to do Fat Cat in Greenwhich village is always a great time. Get's pretty crowded but tons of games. It is pretty close to Blind Tiger, which is a NYC beer bar institution.

Just dont get bummed out because of crowds. Every bar will have them.
