I think I have heard of these beers you speak of. But I don't often venture down that aisle. I could save myself some money if that were my interest. I saw 18 #s of something called Bud Light for $13.99. It was almost enough to lure me down that aisle.

    Right?
I've never gotten done mowing the lawn or doing something else in the summer and thought "man, I could really go for a KBS right now!" or "You know, a nice imperial IPA sounds quite refreshing" haha.

Thank you. I drink anything from stouts to IPAs to lagers of all sorts. I happen to like AALs also. Trust me, if I was looking to get drunk, it sure wouldn't be with this 3.2% abw Miller High Life I'm watching this basketball game with. I like the taste.

I'm actually glad that not everybody likes craft beer. This leaves better and more selection for those of us who actually enjoy good beer. Sometimes it's not easy finding fresh stuff or special releases and the more people that switch to craft would only difficult that issue. If it ever gets to a point where I can't find commercial beer I enjoy I will just double or triple the amount homebrew I make. Cheers;-)

Not only that, but I wonder how many craft beer folks drink way too much. Perhaps the proportion of macro drinkers that drink to excess is less than the proportion of craft drinkers that drink to excess?

It doesn't bother me that macros exist, but it does bother me that they are trying to use legal tactics and economic bullying to keep competition out of the market. This reduces my choices.

Not all macro drinkers are alcoholics, but most of the ones who aren't just settled on a brand when they were in college and got in the habit of buying it. And I'm not immune to that kind of habitual behavior, I still watch Saturday Night Live every week just because I got in the habit when I was 12. But let's call a formed habit a formed habit. Macros don't even deny that this is the goal of their marketing.

Macros usually fare poorly in blind taste tests even among macro drinkers.

bah... if anything I'm bothered by craft beer's growth. I wish more people had stuck with BMC and craft was more niche like it used to be. Please, stop "converting" people to craft beer.

    Go Budweiser!

But there are so many better craft options if you want a crisp, refreshing lager than Bud, Miller, or Coors products. Go pick up Sixpoints 'The Crisp' (among many other options from other breweries) and maybe you'll switch your lager of choice. I don't mind a PBR or and Old Style from time to time, but I'm not going to say they are great beers, because they simply are not, just watered down and light. Some other options:

    Lagunitas Pils
Oskar Blues Momma's Little Yella Pils
    Brooklyn Pilsner
    Brooklyn Lager
    Victory Prima Pils
    etc. etc. etc.

All hands down better than any carbonated water you'll get from the likes of Bud or Miller.

My apologies. I should have mentioned that craft drinkers can ALSO knock down a
quantitative amount of beer. They are not immune to getting buzzed/drunk.
Especially considering the high APV's in some micro brews.

This is true, but the crisp is also like $11 for a 6-pack, while a 6er of something like Old Style or Bud is like $4 or $5. I know it's not as good, but I also know it's not that bad.

It's quite irritating watching someone like Chris from Beer Geek Nation review a popular beer among beer snobs and say
"Oh wow, tons of fruit, mango, pineapple, some aged tangerine in there, just a hint a citrus and floral notes"

And then review a macro beer and say
    "Ugh, wet cardboard"

It's groupthink in my opinion. And I understand why since this is of course a beer website. I know that I prefer 'craft' beer to 'domestic' beer, but I'm also not going to pretend like it isn't nice and refreshing to have a bud light at a ballgame or on a sunny summer afternoon.

As long as macro does not constrict or control distribution of other beer, then fine, but they have a propensity to do so. Let's not forget about their influential political agendas as well. All to keep other brewers from reaching you.

As for the reasons so many folks drink them...
Of course some want to be able to drink all night and boogie-oogie-oogie without going to jail. Not everyone wants a numb face after one or two beers. Many don't even really want much of a buzz. My old man, for example, drinks (IMO) the worst of bad beer - super light, thin, tasteless, sulfurous-smelling Natural Light. He likes to drink beer all afternoon and Natty allows the old guy to do that without getting smashed, without gaining weight, and on the cheap. He enjoys it. That's fine by me. We drink beers together every Friday. I just bring my own.

I like both micro and macro - heady topper, miller lite, ten fidy, lunch, coors, enjoy by and on and on. Depends on the situation and what i'm doing. Granted - most of the time I'm drinking micro and it takes up the biggest space in my fridge - but I always have some macro on hand. I'm proud to be a miacro! New word - BOOM! Feel free to us it my fellow miacro's!!!

Aside from taste, one of the biggest reasons I switched to craft brews was the fact that I
Makes sense (aside from the price argument, a $9 bud light at a ball game isn't really saving you money ), drink what you like. To each his/her own.

IMHO - More craft beer for us! BTW, I just picked up some Hopslam.

I am both irritated that some of the best beers are hard to find and grateful that the average beer consumer is not interested in what I want.

Craft beer is certainly gaining in popularity, prominence and becoming more of a consideration for buyers. The price point is different as is the value proposition for consumers. I drink it because I enjoy excellent tasting beers and I can afford to drop $10 - $15 a six pack or $10 a bomber. If the prices stay where they are for both the craft segment and the adjunct segment, then overlap should be small.

unfortunately that doesn't matter much anymore. I've found an increased number of people over the years that absolutely hoard the shit out of limited and hard to find beers. Be grateful for what you find because there's a good chance the person behind you is buying the rest!

I, for one, am glad that the superbowl ad made its own definition of their being macro and proudly reveling in it for its entire 9$m price tag. It actually makes the job for non-macro beer easier when taken as just that.
People don't linger over McDonalds for the same reason they don't linger over Budweiser. It's made to be consumed, quickly and without thinking about who, or what actually went into making it. That's the direct opposite of craft beer.
You're not eating food at McDonalds. You are eating science, and engineering. Same with Macro beer.
