I think @zid made his comment because all the choices you suggested to the OP were ales, not lagers, suggesting that your grasp of what a good lager is may be on shaky ground. Just my two cents....

In general, it seem as if many folks are ignoring the fact that the OP is looking for lager recommendations. Though I suppose in the lager-blind world of beeradvocate, this is to be expected, ha ha.

Jesse, I actually composed a post mentioning the ale vs. lager thing but I deleted it; I figured folks just weren't concerned about the distinction.

    Cheers!

Nugget Nectar, Zoe, Nosferatu, Blazing World, Tocobaga... NOT LAGERS!!

I think Flying Dog's Old Scratch is pretty good, certainly preferable to Yuengling.

This thread makes me miss Sierra Nevada's Vienna lager. Hopefully they bring it back.

Other than that - Jack's Abby "Red Tape"

And for a hoppy version - definitely Clown Shoes "swagger"

Tommyknocker's Ornery Amber is probably not my favorite. Cannot say I drink a lot of this style though.

Not that I'll have it around much longer but Levitation is my favorite. Next up that I can still get is Calico Copper from Ballast Point (year round) and Nugget Nectar. I also really loved County St. Amber from Original Gravity in Milan, MI but I'm nowhere near there and can't get it regularly.

    Yuengling would be fairly close.

For a lot of the amber/red ales that people are suggesting - no, most have much more hop flavor.

    I'm not, because it's not a lager.
