    Timing is everything!?!

I am very fortunate that I have never had an off Victory/Sly Fox Czech Pilnser.

Even better news: I will be bottling my homebrewed Czech Pilsner this weekend. Woo-Hoo!!

Gordon Biersch. If there's one near you, check it out. Out of the bottle it's just ok, but nothing beats having it straight out of the brights. I haven't had a better Czech pils, but mind you, I haven't been over seas either. I know it doesn't rate high on this site, but don't let the peer pressure sway you. Their marzen is also fantastic on premise. All the others are ok but not great.

Definitely Berkshire Czech Pilsner. Really great.

For those providing examples, could you also say which Czech originals these most closely resemble? I would find such info helpful if/when I go searching some of these out. Thanks.

Another vote for GLBC, but now I have more suggestions that I need to add to my ISO list.

Seriously? I had such high hopes for this beer, not having had it since the early 90s, and it was so underwhelming when it returned. It's more Helles than any sort of Pilsner -- with little hop character, that I wonder how they can call it a Pilsner of any style.

My best guess is that they stuck to the original recipe that was developed back in the early days of micro-brewing when bigger hops wasn't the "thing." All well and good, because it's certainly a well-made beer, but Hometown Blonde is such a better Pilsner.

Well, to be fair -- it didn't have as much malt character as a Czech Pils ought to have either.

(Never said I didn't like hops, just like them used well. :grinning:)

Coors Barmen Pilsner. Reminds me of the one from Zatec.

My favorite is DFH Piercing Pils. Really like the way they blended the pilsner taste with the pear flavor. Oskar Blues Lil Yela Mama's Pils is also a favorite.

Wow. My first post on here and I'm blown away by the responses. To your points there are definitely a bunch I've tried that I'm not giving enough credit (fw pivo and lagunitas to point out a few)

One of the things I feel made them taste so good is freshness and tanknova system so maybe I have to go straight to source to truly compare

Shiner 101 and SN Summerfest. Good beers but I prefer Urquell, Golden Pheasant, Budvar or Staropramen.

Pivo Pils has always been more like a German Pils than a Czech example to me. Pivo is Slavic for beer, but does that make it a Czech Pils? All German hops might steer it away form that Saazer flavor and aroma. Under the style it is called "Hoppy Pilsner" by FW.
