Rolling Sushi Van is at Bottle Logic and The Bruery pretty frequently.

I'm not the biggest sushi connisour, but the Backbay tavern @ the NB Whole Foods has both IMHO.

I'm curious what kind of beers you're pairing with sushi. Good sushi is more delicate in flavor so a majority of today's popular styles just get in the way.

A spider roll and Mocha Wednesday is a match made in heaven.

If you go to Sushi on Fire in Downtown Huntington Beach and there is a wait, go to Main Street Wine Co. next door for a small selection of craft beer. When your table is ready they will bring your beer with you.

It's like the stars align when they show up there and Hanamachi is pouring.

I would pair them with Fou Foune (if it were so easily obtained).

But can't imagine any beer pairing better with sushi than sake. Sushi and sake is one of the best pairings ever, the other being steak and cabs. Wings and IPA's are distant third.

EDIT: Actually, sausages and beer pair pretty well. Lot of range.

Fou Foune's an interesting pairing and may work with some of the stronger tasting fish like saba but might overwhelm a mild fish like tai. I'd give it a shot (if I could get a bottle, that is). A dry saison that's low on the spice might work too.

I think sushi's one of those things that you're better off going with the classic pairing of sake, like you said.

I'm not a big sushi fan, but spicy tuna and an IPA is a winning combination in my book

I'm with ya on that. But I would be that one guy in the group getting a teriyaki bowl and a couple sake bombs with Kirin and that super cheap "house" sake.

agree, though i'd be curious to try something. i can see enjoying a pale ale or milder ipa with sushi

i can't think of any in LA that serve craft, but i usually just go with Asahi (and i enjoy it with sushi). i am noticing more cuisine varieties offering craft nowadays though (at least with newer restaurants) which is great. Din Tai Fung has Golden Road stuff at least. Pine and Crane has Modern Times, Bear Republic, El Segundo etc.. a Mexican place near where i live, Condor, has a few craft taps which is awesome. i like a margarita sometimes, but not always. i do always want mexican food though

Sushi and Almanac Citrus go really well together.

I would say things like helles and pilsner and not over-the-top IPAs. Maybe saison, too. Every place I've been to with good soosh has like Sapporo and Asahi. I would frequent a place that offered good beer, too, or was BYO.

a mild yuzu beer could be amazing. the only one i've had is Femme Fatale which i think could be too distracting
