Did the carrier pigeon get lost on its way back to Chicago possibly? Anyone file a missing pigeon report?

THG Palatine had it there Wednesday when I went. The bartender said it had been going quick but would probably be on another day or two... idk if i agree with his defintion of quick though, if 3-4 days was his estimate

Yay! Five week old Abrasive for all!

Kidding, but thanks for update, Vav! I can stop having my MN friends wasting their money on FedEx.

I dont know the date on the cans coming, but they're shipping from the brewery fresh this weekend and landing at Windy's warehouse Monday.

@Vav Any idea on the MSRP of a 4-pack? I'm heading up to Minneapolis next weekend and have a feeling it will be a little cheaper up there.

This is good to hear as an above post (Abrasive is already at the Windy City Warehouse, They are just waiting for the ok from the Brewery to release it.) indicated it might have been sitting around for a bit. Looking forward to next week.

Here's hoping those canning dates are from February, and not the mid-January run.

And here I was, thinking, "man, I've spent wayyyy too much on beer/liquor the last few weeks. Might as well chill and drink what I've got, for now."

    ...See you tomorrow.

I once did a blind taste of 3-month old Abrasive vs fresh canned. No difference. I've had it 6-months old (refrigerated the whole time) and still tasted every bit as good as right off the line. Kind of remarkable how little this beer drops off. I think you guys will be fine with any canning date!

I agree that it doesn't drop off much, though I think folks are more concerned about the low carb issues they've been having. Hopefully Surly has figured out the cause and newer batches are unaffected.

From what I have been reading and personal experience, Abrasive canned on and after 1/23 are good to go.

With previous canning dates, I luckily didn't have any flat cans, but some did seem under carbed. I thought they tasted fine, but I finally had a 1/23 and it was almost like a different beer.

I would just keep an eye out for anything canned before 1/23. If you do get some and it is not up to snuff, return it to the store and also email Surly as they have been taking care of people.

I'm in the exact same boat. The beers never stop coming. Once I think I can stop buying for a while something good hits the market and I HAVE to buy it. Especially Abrasive.

I've followed that entire Abrasive Thread over in the Midwest forum and it looks like the 1/9 and 1/13 canning dates had the most problems. There were very few reports from the 1/23 batch that had flat/under carbed cans. And it looks like all of the Feb cans so far are ok.

No kidding! I've been running into that exact problem for months. During last summer I was thinking, "it's strange, I've actually been pretty restrained with my beer-buying recently," which turned into, "holy crap, it's Fall and it turns out, all my favorite beers are brewed and/or released from September to May (or something like that)." So much for restraint.

It also doesn't help that with the Chicago beer market, you basically have a day or two to pick up most big releases, so good luck "holding off" until next week.

The cans are dated 2/6. If that isn't fresh enough for you then switch back to vodka and red bull.

    Doomtree was canned 2/16.

    See you tonight!
