Alpine ... a love affair begins

    Ok, so northern NJ finally had its Alpine release last night, and we got to sample the goodness of Nelson, Duet and Hoppy Birthday. After all the hype, I was afraid that legendary west-coast bias that so many bitch about would kick in, but no - they were sensational. Really looking forward to finding these more often. Any thoughts on the taste difference, if any, between bottles and draught with them? Close enough to be irrelevant?

    I could sense a slight difference in Duet, from the brewhouse. Hoppy Birthday and Nelson still phenomenal. Cheers!

    So to answer, Irrelevant.

    Just had Nelson for the first time last weekend and I echo your sentiments word for word. Kickass brew and can't wait to try more from Alpine

    I couldn't stand Nelson, turns out I do not like the hop, as all I got was a cheap white wine finish out of it.

    Others can't stand Fuggles as it tastes like dirt, Simcoe for cat pee, and so on.

    We all have different tastes.

    I find Duet better in the bottle. Nelson and Hoppy Bday are fantastic on tap. Seems like all 3 are whats making its way around since the new production.

    All kegs are being brewed by Green Flash. The bottles are from Alpine, although I heard Duet is now being bottled by GF. Everyone I've talked to says the difference between GF and Alpine is night and day. Also, Hoppy Birthday doesn't get bottled so we'll never know. But it's possible Alpine still brews it themselves for the pub only.

    Alpine makes great ales. So happy to add them into my rotation here in AZ. Harder to choose what to drink with so many good beers brought into the state.

    I know GF owns Alpine now but hadn't heard about any distribution expansion. Anyone have a link about this?

    @PSU_Mike: I too prefer Duet to Nelson. No contest!

    Glad you can get these in New Jersey. I still have a hell of a time finding them in Los Angeles!

    At fireworks pizza in Arlington,VA Wednesday 18 Feb from 5-8pm. I just called and they said they would have bottles also, but girl didn't sound like she was fully aware of the event, so we'll see. Hoppy Birthday, Nelson, Duet, and many Green Flash also. May be a long ride home on Wednesay
