I don't quite know exactly how the laws work, but essentially you get beer one of two places. One being a distributor, which sells kegs and beer by the case only. Otherwise you have to get beer at a location only able to offer draft/singles/6 packs (or 4 packs). The latter I'm not 100% sure how it works, but I think technically it has to be an establishment that is considered a bar, but some grocery stores have been able to find a loophole by offering sales in a separate "cafe" area which offers made to order food items that you can eat on premises.

Basically, cases/kegs only, or singles/4pack/6pack/draft only.

EDIT It's also worth noting that liquor and wine sales are done in completely separate establishments that are state owned, and thus pricing on those items is completely regulated and there's almost never insane sales.

EDIT #2 I guess it's also worth noting that some of these distributors also double as the wholesale distributors for a region, so while you can go in to those locations and purchase by the case, they are also where a lot of the "6 pack locations" are getting their stock from. That's another thing I'm a little iffy on the details.

Carton 077XX, this is damn good stuff, I could see this as an everyday drinker if it was local for me.

They sorta aren't, but bottle shops aren't allowed to sell more than 192oz at a time, and guess how many follow that rule? And it's not entirely just something they do quietly, a few distributors near me openly sell single bottles at the front of the store, so I think something must have changed in how the rules work.

Anyway, I'd sign up to take more off her hands myself, but I'm sure you'll have an easy time dispensing it among this group to those that have less access than I.

It's not really a loophole, I believe it's something new that grocers are now allowed to sell beer, some grocers I go to have a "beer garden" but some do not. It's also not necessary to be a "bar" as lots of deli's have a to go cooler as well, and there's nothing remotely "bar" about those. It's worth mentioning that non-"distributors" are only "allowed" (see my above comment) to sell a maximum of 192oz per person.

As far as "state stores" (where wine/liquor are sold) go, I'm very happy to note that there is some talk of privatizing these, which will be great not only for pricing but for overall availability; not that I buy much non-beer alcohol anyway.

Glad you like It, I was a little heavy on the berries, but I am a little heavy handed when it comes to adjuncts in my homebrews. Want something different from the norm. Great picture though, humbles me to see my homebrew somewhere else.

If this is your home brew standard then I need more of your home brews. I for one am all for the heavy adjuncts.

Ok, so even though my first LIF box hasn't gone out yet (soon....), I did win a second LIF and want to get it off the ground.

So many people don't know this but I'm a fairly avid rhythm gamer (well... gamer in general but rhythm games are one of my big things). I started out playing DDR in 2001 and have played tons of games in the genre, mostly japanese ones but I have dabbled in guitar hero/rock band/etc. As part of my tax return gift/selling some stuff off for extra cash gift to myself, I purchased an arcade style replica controller for a certain japanese rhythm game (I can't go into too much detail in public). In this game, songs are rated on a scale of 1-16.

The LIF question is as follows: of the 124 (by a count I just did... may or may not be accurate, but it's damn close if not accurate) songs rated 15 in the game, how many of them will I clear by the end of March? The closest guess THAT IS AT LEAST THE CORRECT ANSWER (meaning kinda the opposite of price is right -- closest without being UNDER) wins (so if I clear 40 of them, someone who guessed 42 wins over someone who guesses 39)

    Three hints for this LIF

    1) I've played the game on three occasions prior to buying my own controller over the last year and a half (though on each of those occasions I've played a considerable amount of the game). The 6th song I cleared was a 14.
    2) I've never cleared a 15. I've only attempted 3 and failed miserably at all 3.
    3) I'm fairly natural at picking up rhythm games very quickly once I have regular access to them. A friend who knows a lot of the game sent me some videos of "easier" 15s that I should try, and I'm fairly confident in being able to clear those soon after getting my controller.

For what it's worth, it's coming from china (lol?), and while the estimated delivery says anywhere from late march to mid april, others that have ordered theirs from the same merchant have reported getting them very quickly (5-10 days after it shipped, which occurred less than a week after ordering). If it gets later into the LIF "window" I'll update the end time for this LIF.

The prize box will have a combination of a few locals as well as a few things from my cellar kinda chosen at random. Probably 100-150oz

Good luck! As silly as it may seem, rhythm games have been a huge part of my life, and most of my close friends I still regularly I met either directly or indirectly through them, as strange as it may seem. Rhythm gamers are a pretty close community, kinda similar to what I've found in the BA community

The last two years of college and two years after college (so basically 1997-2001) I helped run a video game store that focused on Japenese video games. Back then most of the interesting video games came out first in Japan and a lot of games never came out in the US. It was a very small community as there were only a few video game stores that focused in that area. We had some pretty horrible customer service (and I was too young to know that wasn't okay) and the company went out of business a couple years after I left (which corresponded to the rise of the US video game market as completely separate from Japan's).

Been drinking, so this is a long story version of saying: I totally get the idea of single-game controllers and Japanese video games. We sold the crap out of Japanese DDR pads. Also sold a number of controllers for some train game where the controller was to control the speed of the train... that one was a bit weird.

Edit: Oh, forgot to guess. 45.

I guess it's also worth saying I'm going to close entries to this LIF whenever my controller arrives... that way I can keep the thread updated with progress and kinda keep a "sweat" going on
