Watching the Badgers light up the Fighting Ilini.

Drinking a one off from WI Brewing Co, Bleding Heart. It is a pretty dark red/brown and has a 1.5 finger off white head. Spotty lacing. The aroma has the Saison yeast with some funk. I can tell there is am Amber base ale. The taste is like a Saision with the yeast and grassy funk, but some of the amber flavor comes into play. It's interesting, but I imagined it would have more of a funky tartness to it. Very similar to Lakefront My Turn Matt.

What's happening nbs nation. Got like a good 4 inches of fresh powder here on the island. Windy as all hell and just bitter cold. Glad I don't have to deal with a morning commute tomorrow.

My new beer today is Elysian space dust ipa. Seen this around the past few months and giving it's rating I finally bought some. Bottle date of 12/2/14 so not terribly fresh but 2 months should be fine.

Golden amber pour with hazy clarity and a lingering head. Nose speaks of hops and pine. Not terribly floral but it's there. The taste is bitter and pungent on the initial taste. The bitterness continues on the finish along with nice notes of pine, resin, and grass. Really takes on the west coast style. Mouth feel is very good and I really enjoy how the flavors linger. It's a good solid beer but I do not agree with the 92 ba score. Probably an 85/88 in my book but to each their own,

Ovila Abbey Quad brewed with plums. From Sierra Nevada
I'm not a big fan of beers brewed with fruit but this is a pretty nice brew. The plum flavor and aroma are strong but don't overpower everything else. The body seems a bit light for a Quad. In any case it tastes very good and went well with a Blue Cheese Burger.

That label is just weird. Maybe InBev will fix it.

    --------------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a wheat ale glass.

Deep dark brown walnut body, forming a very even and just barely three finger perfect tan head of even pinhead bubbles all throughout. Some clarity and chestnut edges for the body, but quite solid. Head falls at a normal clip with no lacing.. leaving a small thin puck left on the glass. Sort of looks like a regular porter.

A good simple milk chocolate angle aroma. Hints of chocolate wafer biscuit, moderate sweetness, and actually an interesting note of peanut butter as well. Pretty simple, not totally artificial smelling, not exactly the greatest chocolate aroma but very inviting and simple without a giant cheap candy store rush. The peanut action is a nice unexpected compliment. A true bit of vanilla does stick out. No complaints here, this is as advertised on the bouquet, not sure where this is going though, but there's no hint of beer character malt or yeast it seems.

Palate though just sort of goes for classic not take any risks, and for a weak pedestrian angle. Cola sweetness pervades all over this in every shape or form imaginable. Seltzery but flat body cola like body, with a mild gaseous finish. Cola sweetness all over, where is the chocolate and detectable aromas of flavor on the palate in this cause they aren't even there. No depth to this at all in the body, watery, and lifeless. The palate washes with diet cola flavor and no wheat density whatsoever. Big aspartame like Splenda fake sugar finish… holy molly that is a shocker and coming out of nowhere as well.

Overall, it's like a bad German Diesel. This doesn't even taste like beer and it's a huge disappointment in how it comes out from the nose and appearance. They made chocolate cola instead. Drinkable… but so is Diet Coke© apparently for some, so keep that in mind.

Lovely appearance; classic smell (a little heavy on banana aroma, but still). Flavor and feel can't near live up to the promise, though: it's thin and dull. There's nothing bad whatsoever; this would do on a warm Summer day, no doubt. But there just anything there that grabs me, either.

    New Imperial IPA Sunday

Greetings from the frozen tundra otherwise known as the Jersey Shore. The temp checked in at an ominous 0 degrees earlier this morning. What gives? That's decidedly not Exit 82 type weather. I feel for those of you who suffer through long spells of weather like this.
If I'm going to be stuck inside, may as well make the most of it:

This has been sitting in my cellar a little while now, I honestly forgot about it. It appears it's no longer a 'limited release' - I just saw it in 6-packs and it's on Lagunitas' 'seasonal' list. It's one of the best black IPAs I've had and IMO could be considered a benchmark for the style. A great blend of dark malt and hops though I couldn't taste any really detailed flavors. And FWIW no harm is done by letting it sit for a few months . Definitely recommended!

    Hello All,

A crazy week at work meant the beer fridge sat relatively untouched. A good client of ours had been away for about a month and returned home Tuesday to find a radiator in an upstairs bedroom had split and leaked the entire time. It destroyed multiple walls and ceilings, as well as about 600 square feet of hardwood flooring. A friggin' mess to say the least, and now our top priority. Add to that this never-ending barrage of snow and suddenly a lazy Sunday is appreciated on a whole new level.

First new beer for today: Young's Double Chocolate Stout.

A: Pours a deep, dark brown (almost black) color with an active two finger head of caramel colored bubbles that slowly dissipates and leaves a layer of foam floating on the surface.

S: Very deep roasted malt and chocolate aromas, and I detect a nice hint of coffee in there as well.

T: Taste follows the nose well. This beer is what it claims to be, and not much more. Very strong roasted malt and dark chocolate flavor. The coffee is still in there, and it all finishes slightly bitter. Nothing complex to be found here, this is a chocolate beer start to finish.

F: This could have been better. It's just a little too thin, it needs more body to truly stick to your mouth like it wants to. Carbonation remained sufficient throughout.

O: I enjoyed this beer plenty, but I can't say it was everything I wanted it to be. Too little body and a slightly underwhelming taste experience left me wishing I had grabbed a bottle of Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout instead.

    Cheers!

Back with my first beer of today's NBS, a caged-and-corked behemoth courtesy of @Ozzylizard:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/392/75430/?ba=woemad
Very tasty, and not at all what I was expecting. Listed as a Belgian Dark Ale, this tastes like a cherry sour with some Belgian dubbel characteristics in the background. The tart sour flavor isn't overbearing but is pretty up front all the same, and I swear there's not a bit of the 10.6% abv to be found in the taste.

Not sure if I'll be hitting anything else today, due to the quantity and alcohol strength of this, so if this is it, Happy NBS to you all and have a great week if I don't managed to crack open another one.

I haven't tried that yet, and am utterly clueless as to why that is the case. I think you've inspired me to pick some up.

Afternoon NBS! Had a great share last night with @bozodogbreath. Good times, good beer, and great conversation. He gave me a few beers that I had never had before, so for this NBS I'm going to start with one of those. Here we go...

Small Town Brewery, Not Your Father's Root Beer (5.9%)

    Here's my review:

Pours a dark brown, with some amber color on the edges. No head to speak of. Looks exactly like root beer.

Smell is of vanilla, sassafras, traditional root beer scent.

Sufferin' Sassafras! this stuff is good. Exactly like root beer, sweet caramel, vanilla, sassafras. Amazing. Just a little sweet...

Feel is awesome. Sometimes root beer can be a little to carbed when as a soft drink. This has the perfect amount of carbonation in order to grab your palate, but not enough to make you feel like you judt sipped hydrogenated corn syrup. Nice and smooth.

Overall this is awesome if you love root beer. I can see some people saying that this is too sweet, and I probably wouldn't drink a bunch of these, but one ever now and then is a great treat.

well here's my new beer for the week. Dare I say, I win this week!

This being a well sought after beer I struck a burnished gold when a work buddy went to Vermont for skiing.
I love the aroma pungent sweet hoppy fresh. Candied tropical fruits.
Very smooth and easy drinking bold and hoppy up front with resiny pine and malt dry and bitter finish.
I traded an Abyss and xesovesa for two (2) heady toppers. I think it was a trade even up.
I think this is a very good beer but for me not worth the hype. One beer for me is worthy of all the hype and that is KBS.
I believe it's worth the effort to get it, but I think if this was more available other DIPA's would give it it a run for it's money.
    But thats me

do you YOU! feel like I do

Whoa! Way to take one for the team! Your taste buds' sacrifice will not be forgotten!:grimacing:

Maybe at some point we should have a NBBS (New Bad Beer Sunday). Everybody picks up a bottle of something new to them that seems like it would be the worst beer they could buy - provided they can follow it up with something great (gotta have a reward for going through such an ordeal).
