The wife and I are taking a mini road trip next Friday/Saturday and plan on passing through NW Indiana, Chicago, and heading up to New Glarus.

So far, we are planning on hitting 3Floyd's, 18th st, revolution, half acre, and NG....With that said, any tips or other places (I'm thinking more along the lines of bottle shops) that we should visit? I'm mostly looking for sours, wild ales, lambics (all kinda the same to me but you get the drift)......

Or, are there any breweries that we should also visit that are maybe new or up and coming? We've been to all of the above breweries before (except NG) so I know they are good and usually have good stuff. Also, I'd really like to get some "not your father's root beer" 5.9% or even 10%.

If anyone has any tips or places they recommend that have a great Sour selection, I'd appreciate it!!

Also, does anyone know if Cantillon is ever found in the Chicagoland area? that's always a big want.

The Chicago (and many of the Wisconsin) peeps tend to stick to the great lakes forum, they may have a better idea on bars, etc... that said O'so in Wisconsin has some outstanding sours if you make it up that far.

*edit: if you do make it up that far there is no reason NOT to go to central waters, no sour/lambics but one of the better barrel-age programs in the midwest imho.

You can try at Hopleaf, never any guarantees there will be any though.

Hit up Karben4 on the outskirts of Madison if you can. Fantasy Factory comes close to giving pseudoSue a run for it's money.

Does central waters distribute or are they brewery only? I have heard good things about their BA barleywine....thanks!

CW distributes, you can still find the BA barleywine on the shelves around Milwaukee and Madison. Would also recommend the BA Cherry Stout or any of the Brewer's Reserve series. If you venture up to the CW brewery in Amherst, there is a nice taproom and some really great people working there. O'so's place is near by in Plover.

I was in Madison over the last weekend, west side south of Middleton, and visited a Steve's. There are three locations in the area. Check the FB page before visiting as they seem to keep it updated. Nice selection of Toppling Goliath. The guy working was helpful and said the Karben4 delivery comes in on Wednesdays and is usually sold out within a few hours. Never know maybe you will get lucky. Echoing an earlier post, I would recommend visiting the Karben4 tap room (Fantasy Factory is their most touted brew).

If you are headed through Milwaukee, send me a DM and I can direct you to a few stores or some of the gem bars.
