it was an infection. i had already had two of them prior to the infected bottle and they tasted much different.

if you look through the untappd scores, you will find other people who have had an infected bottle. i feel like the more this one ages, the more this will be the case.

So what did they taste like? Can you all give us any other details other than they were "infected?"

After being a very solid beer less than a month ago, the body has thinned dramatically, tastes extremely tart upfront and finishes with a flat-like cardboard (compared to the those beautiful lingering notes oak, bourbon and dark fruits from the previous experience)...and one red wine barrel out of a 37 barrel blend doesn't overwhelm to this extent. It reminded me a lot of the contamination issues DR had with the Baltic Porter a year or so ago.

FWIW, I have other friends that have opened bottles since and reported no issues; however, those bottles were all kept in refrigeration conditions where mine were stored around 55*-60* since delivery.

I don't really have an actual menu, but it never hurts to ask....or you can look on the "just in" area of the website, usually gives ya' a glimpse of what's in the house!

I had a bottle last night @ Duckworth's in Huntersville, $7.50. I liked it a lot. I've seen a few posts stating their bottles were infected - I think it's just the distinctive taste imparted by the one red wine barrel in the mix. There's a definite dryness upfront and a red wine & wood taste.

I drank one there last night - and bought six to take home. I have no idea how many more they had.

Excellent! I thought I had grabbed the last of it on Sunday, glad to hear there was some still there. Their site shows out of stock now though.

Okay - that makes me think they've got even more then. I was there about 6:00 and they asked me how many I wanted, and didn't blink an eye when I asked for six beers - just went to the cooler in back and brought them out. Give 'em a call if you're looking locally, $7.50 a pop isn't bad to snag a few.

Wait, are you talking about Duckworth's? I was referring to Total Wine.

Crap - my bad, thought you were talking about Ducks. I called the Total Wine spots - all were out. Sorry.

I put one in the fridge this weekend but didn't get around to it, so I opened it tonight. Unfortunately it has the tartness and thinning body @rbradley mentioned. I have had 2 bottles previous to this one that were so good that I was thinking about buying another sixer. Not anymore. I still enjoyed drinking it this evening, but I'm putting my remaining bottles in the fridge tonight just in case.

Is there science behind this? Will putting them in the fridge stem an infection?

It slows it down. The yeast/bacteria do not work as fast at lower temps.
