You may want to consider setting up an in-person trade. For example, Cherry Adam from the Wood is available at HotD right now, but almost certainly won't be in a couple months. If you really want one, it would be easy for a Portlander to grab you a couple. Likewise with De Garde, there will likely be 4-5 releases between now and when you visit. Bottles tend to last a weekend or two. But who knows what they'll have available when you're here. If you see something on FB you really want, setting up an IP trade now for when you're here is your best bet.

As for Cascade, they have 10 or 15 (maybe 20 now???) bottles available for sale to go at the barrel house. Hardly anyone buys their bottles in Portland due to extremely high cost. So they sit around for a long period of time. There still could be 2011 bottles available at this point. You'll have no issue stocking up on their lacto-forward sours when you're here. Just be prepared to open up the wallet. My personal preference? Buy 3x the number of De Garde bottles instead. Just saying.

This. When a case of Petit Desay or Bu Weisse is less than 2 Cascade bottles, you can share the love AND have plenty for yourself.

Pfriem in Hood River and Upright's basement tasting room in PDX is all about FRESH. Lardo on Hawthorne is also a must.
Honorable mention to Pok Pok Thai restaurant.

Great advice. Sooo, who wants to do some trading??? Cherry Adam from the Wood sounds awesome. I'd love one of those and any of the De Garde releases! PMs appreciated!

I also met Mike through a trade. I live in Columbus about 2.5 hours south of where he stays in Cleveland. I love going to Fat Head's up there, so I set up an IP trade with him and see him there every now and then. Really good dude. Not so sure the wife would appreciate him tagging along for our anniversary trip though haha.

Best bet for pub style fare out near De Garde is going to be the Pelican tap room. Assuming you don't want to make the extra trek to the coast for Pelican, it'd be a shame to go all the way to Tillamook and not have a pint or two there with your food before returning.

No need to trade for Cherry Adam. At least as of Sunday, you could still buy up to a case to go at the tasting room.

I doubt it would last until we arrive the first week of June. Luckily, @hannont was nice enough to offer to pick some up for me. For which I have no issue reciprocating with some beer from my area as a thanks!

I definitely want anything De Garde that I can get my hands on. If anyone is willing to get any of the releases for me, I would definitely reimburse and make it up to them. Either buy some of their bottles for them as a thanks or repay in the form of beer!

Good point. I had forgotten that the plan is to come out in May/June.

    Enjoy your trip.

FWIW, ever since Cascade stopped shipping you can find their bottles all over town, often for a little less than they charge at the actual brewery. I would suggest going there and drinking your fill on tap, and then hitting a bottle shop or two.

That brings up a question I can't believe I haven't asked! What are some of the best bottle shops in PDX? And what are some of the must have bottles that I should seek out?

    Beaumont Market

    Johns Market

    Belmont Station

    Tin Bucket

The high end grocery stores like Whole Foods, market of choice, and New Seasons also tend to have good selections as well. They ususally have bottles of HOTD Fred and Adam, and Blue Dot as well.

Bottles you must seek?? If you are coming in June, you might be around for one or more of Upright's special releases (which if you are lucky will be Special Herbs). Also, if you are lucky you may run into some Block 15 Sticky Hands IPA. Deschutes always seems to have 3-4 of their special bottles hanging out on shelves (mirror mirror, Jubel 15, Black Butte 26, Not the Stoic)

I would just key in on some of the brew sites like Brewpublic as they usually update with releases and events.

Bailey's also has the Upper Lip, which has a treasure trove of older bottles if you're willing to pay for them. The Upper Lip also has another 6 taps that almost always has something interesting, and much less of a crowd.

I mentioned this in the "visiting" thread, but you're almost better off at beer bars than at breweries just because you tend to get more variety, although I think in your case you've already picked out three you're not going to see much of outside the brewery. Hair of the Dog also has a nice list of older bottles available for in-house consumption. I've had a 15-year-old Fred for $15 and it's really interesting to see how far the aging can go. It was still quite enjoyable. Cascade taps new stuff every single week, so the barrel house is a treat for that even more than the expensive bottles.

For bottles, I wouldn't leave without a seizoen bretta from Logsdon.

The Upper Lip does have a great selection of bottles, but they are all for on-site consumption only.

That list does look pretty nice. But damn is it expensive! Might have to check them out!

FYI - Upper lip is on Premise drinking only as well. They have bottle for takeout downstairs though. But Im not sure where else you can just pop bottles of 3 year old Abyss, 2012 Peche n Brett, or 2009 Old Stock Reserve

I like to think of upper lip as my very own cellar - I just don't have to pay until i drink it.

For a bar, the Upper Lip prices look pretty good. The beers are expensive to begin with, but their mark-up really seems pretty gentle.

What the word on De Garde bottle releases? Are they relatively easy to get? If so, I would love any of those. I would reimburse anyone if they can be had in the form of money/beer!
