    Hello folks,new to the thread & having a prob w/ a couple of STC's...

    OK, now for my story...

    I have used this type/style (STC-1000, 110v) in the past w/no problems.

I set the previous units up to control heat only for hatching incubators. Accidently & to my happiness I found the incubators doubled as enclosed heat boxes for my mash projects.

Some time ago I purchased 2 units for future use during a period when I had some extra cash & have now tried to set them up.

    Ok, so to the issue....

Both controllers have the same issue. In the upper right corner is a "C" symbol that does not seem to be discussed in the instructions that do not light up in the previous units but do so in both of these. In both of the new units neither the heating or cooling actions work. I have tested this via lights connected to the out puts & changing the temps to no avail.

If you have not experienced this, is there a chance that you might know of someone I could contact that might??

that is definitely new thread material. the C is indicating that the unit is using degrees Celsius. Some units can be switched to Fahrenheit. But most are Celsius only.

This is what I was thinking for trying to insert the temp probe. Since the metal is removed there in that one spot, I could carefully scrape away the insulation to avoid any lines. And That was going to be my method for adding the tap as well. Use a dremel to cut away the metal, and start shaving insulation. If I need to relocate, I can fill with great stuff, and cover the top with something. some kind of veneer.

Okay, you've done your due diligence . . . now it's time to cut some metal.

Entry from above (pile-driver) will take some concentrated effort but you're not breaking any new ground here, time to just do it. Having the CO2 bottle ride the hump (cowgirl) is both easy and satisfying. You do know (?) the temp probe can easily go through the door seal (reach around) if a rear entry spooks you. If determined to drill ( I was contemplating going through the hump from the rear), this will be a hybrid position which I dub spoggystyle. Use a lubricant, simple machine oil or WD40 will reduce friction/heat and preserve your sharp tool. Don't worry around making a mess . . . she'll clean up after the deed is done.

Next post should show some metal shavings and a big smile.

Unless you live in a place like Colorado where it is 60 and sunny one day, 22 and snowing the next two days and back to 60 and sunny...

I use both functions somewhat regularly on one of my STC's and have had good results. It's a great little unit, especially for the cost.

So, I screwed something up. I threw away the door plastic when I needed it to use as a template for making a replacement panel. I was going to use dry erase board as the replacement. I guess... could I get a piece of poster board, and trim it to get the size right to fit the door gasket and the screw holes and use that as a template?
