Here is an up-and-comer from Astoria, Queens, that appears to have just started bottling (which is quite fortunate for me  )-
    [IMG]
    Singlecut Half Stack IPA

Excellent aroma- vibrant and fruity with lots of tangerine, apricot and mango, backed with gentle waves of pineapple. The mouthfeel is rich yet it finishes quite dry with a lingering pop of bitterness. The flavor is much more straightforward and muted than the nose, mostly citrus and pineapple, with an added dose of pine. If only some of the flavors from the awesome nose followed through to the palate. The way this is so precisely assembled, I'd say that's a shame, only because it keeps the beer from entering the very top tier of IPAs; I was initially reminded of Lawson's Double Sunshine for a moment there. Still, it's a real pleasure to drink and a beer I can see myself getting time and time again, especially at the $5.99 price. Solid A (4.5).

New Toppling Goliath Beers Sunday II

I took a quick break from my book to order some seeds for this summer's vegetable garden. Should be interesting: we moved into a new house with a big yard, but lots of trees…and lots of shade. Hard to be optimistic about tomatoes this summer, but we'll see. Anyway, here's my second Toppling Goliath beer for today:

    TG's Light Speed

This one is much more my speed than PseudoSue. Light Speed pours a hazy golden straw color with a nice, one-finger head. The nose is full of lemon peels, herbal and flowery notes, and some grapefruit. Also kind of bready. Taste is candied lemon peels, floral hops, a nice spike of bready malt, and a shot of bitter pine sap on the finish. Mouthfeel is kind of dry and juicy, chewy, and a bit more substantial than PseudoSue, and thus feels like a pale ale, not a session ale.

Overall, I really liked this one. Would definitely be in my regular rotation if it were available in Toledo.

    Cheers!

I really want to take a road trip to Stateline Liquors in Elkton, MD. I hear they have a good selection.

They do. Also they have a website which is pretty much up to date that lets you find out what they get in and whether it is in stock so you can plan your trip if you decide to go.

    Happy NBS.
I am trying Superfun by Other Half Brewing. My sister and brother in law picked it up yesterday from the brewery.

Look: Look is fantastic. Very clear, light foam throughout, and a little lacing on the glass. 4.5
Smell: I get a very piney, dank, slight citrus smell. 4
Taste: Strong hoppy, piney, dank, taste, with a hint of citrus. I am getting almost no other flavor besides hops, but a slight sweetness right before a strong bitter finish, that hangs for a while after each sip. 4
Feel: Tastes very thin, which make sense since it is 4.2% ABV. 3.75
Overall: An extremely easy drinking beer. Well made APA, but I feel like it drinks like a lot of session IPAs. I have yet to find a very hoppy beer under 5% that has been incredible. I think a stronger malt backbone is needed with heavy doses of hops. 4
    Total score: 4.01

Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Cool story for me this weekend. The woman across the street from me lost her huband about 7 years ago and I have been doing her snow ever since. I do not ask her for payment, but she has forced me into taking a little money the last couple of years. This summer we were talking about VT and I mentioned that I have gone up there twice for beer. She laughed, but then asked me the name of the beer. I told her. 6 month later she stops by with 16 heady toppers. She says, "this is you payment for helping with the snow". She goes up to Burlington a few times a year.

    Cheers

Now it's time for today's new beer, on yet another 10th anniversary of the thread,

It’s sunny and cold in the city named after some falls on a river named after a local tribe. 21 degrees when I awoke, up in the high 30s now. Actually pretty normal for here around now, and nothing compared to much of the country, but a little rude to those of us spoiled by the last few weeks (multiple 50+ degree days…in February!). The weather here as of late has been somewhere between bizarrely and alarmingly…pleasant.

Today I’m finishing off the box I received from the great and powerful @Ozzylizard as part of the NBS BIF. It’s a doppelbock from Pittsburgh and it’s awesome:

Let's keep a good thing going today!

Tyranena bottled a tap room only black IPA and it is a good one. Fatal Attraction has pleasant roasted, rich malts that culminate into a bitter chocolate and coffee aroma. But not before the hops take over and bring in a biting pine resin and citrus aroma. Some toasted grains add to the smell.

The flavor starts off with a deep milk chocolate, that moves to bitter chocolate then adds a touch of coffee. Caramel and cream flavors are also present. The hops come in and assault the palate with biting pine and some citrus. It's not very juicy, but more bitter on the finish.

This is solid and delicious. I would like to compare it to a Firestone Wooky, because I have a feeling it would be similar.

I'd like to reply to yours and say I'm drinking the
same thing. Gave it a 4.26 so very good. Reminds me a lot of a Nerl er Weiss. Would be great in the summer.

The Nobel Star Series of flavored Berliners has been fantastic. Coupled that no one buys them because they are made by August Schell so they are easy to acquire. Look forward to all the future releases.

It is a great store, I am lucky enough to work less than 10 minutes away from State Line so I do almost all my beer shopping there. The selection is truly great, if a beer comes to Maryland they will get it, and the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable.

I noticed they just bottled something called 200 Watt or something of that sort. Sounds awesome. Bon Bon was great. They need to consult Oskar Blues or Left Hand on how to can/bottle nitro beers so I can find some of that Eric More Cowbell and BA-version on my next visit.

I don't usually drink black IPA's but when I do... nevermind.
Actually I was in a rush at the store and didn't notice it was a black. Enjoying it none the less.

Well, the Caps lost, but had a good few games recently. My old team (Bruins) took control of the second game on NBC. Now prepping for the main game of the day for me, hoping UVa can stay at #2 with another win. Grabbed this beer from local bottle shop with a limited but good selection. Twofold of it being a new beer and the Christmas present-like wrapping piqued my interest. But is it good enough to buy?? Luckily I can look on BA to get an idea. Here it is, with a little fun with my simple photo-editing tools, Ondineke Oilsjtersen Tripel - by KleinBrouwerij De Glazen Toren.

The beer buyer often gets well-made, stylistically sound, yet tasteful and enjoyable imports, including Belgians. This one fits the bill exactly. The beer actually has a little bit of farmhouse earthiness as a nice heavy base, but sitting atop that is a nice candy-like fruity flavors. It's like a nice, light saison, I guess. Quite enjoyable.
