Let's speculate. Which craft brewer of significance (let's say 100k bbls annually or more) gets bought out by the big guys next?

Also, who's never going to sell?

don't know much about the game from this speculative angle. just off the top of my head, for no damn good reason at all, i'll say FW would & Russian River would not. although no & not should always be regarded as momentary conditions.

disclaimer: re-reading, i doubt bbls = bubbles. to tell you the truth, i have no idea if RR qualifies for your "let's say #..."

Bell's, if Larry wasn't making idle threats about selling if he could not buy all of the outstanding shares of stock.

I don't think Dark Horse ever sells.

Yeah on second thought, maybe 100k is too big a number.

I do not know what other alternative may be out there for potential ownership but I just struggle to see Larry selling to one of the big guys. I mean his name is the brand and the brand is tied to his legacy, does he want his legacy to ultimately be tied to the big guys? Given his history and the battles he has fought for his brand I just see "selling out" to be a last resort.

Oskar Blues will never sell out, the sign outside their office says, "Anti-Corporate Headquarters"

Abita seems like a good choice to be the next to sell out.

I don't know who will be the next to sell, but I was thinking about who is the most attractive to be bought the other day. Stone has a great brand with great distribution, so I could see the big guys salivating at the thought of buying Stone. I could see a billion dollar figure being thrown their way and I know that would be tough to resist.

BrewDog will never EVER EVER sell out. If anything, I can see them pulling some anarchist shit and buying into one of the big guys only to then trash the shares essentially devaluing the beverage conglomerates.

And I agree with Abita above and possibly also Victory one day.

It would certainly be tough to resist if money is your motivation. I think there are several people out there in the industry, Greg Koch is certainly one of them, who are making a comfortable living and money is not what is motivating them. Greg selling out would be the definition of hypocritical, I think he may pay a billion dollars to maintain his integrity.

Full Sail and Anchor Brewing, if speculation is the game. I can't think of anyone who I would actually EXPECT to "sell out," but hell, how big of a surprise was Goose Island to all of us?

PBR is brewed by Miller and I doubt Miller would sell the label.

I do believe Miller is selling their Coors line to In-Bev right? (I could be wrong about this). If so then it wouldn't be a stretch for them to sell PBR as well.

"Miller" doesn't own the Coors brand, MolsonCoors does -so they can't sell it and such a sale would be rather big news (and probably knocked down by the US DoJ).

In the US, SABMiller and MolsonCoors has a joint venture of their US subsidiaries, known as MillerCoors.

Nor does "Miller" own the Pabst label (or the other couple of dozen labels Pabst owns). MillerCoors contract brews the Pabst beers for the current owners, the Metropoulos family.
