If a beer is "work" to get through I think of two categories, either too sweet or too alcoholic. Neither of those two things is necessarily bad, but a poorly made beer with either of those two characteristics is hard to push thru.

Rumpkin and pumpKYn were insanely rich and sweet, all i did was add some brown ale to em and they were good to go

Does anybody else read all these responses and think that maybe they just drink too fast?

If a beer becomes 'work' for me to finish then either:
    a) I've had too much beer and it's time to stop drinking for the day; or
    b) I'm not enjoying the beer and ends up down the drain

I am not going choke someting down because I don't want to waste it

    Founders Big Luscious.

I made the mistake of ordering it as my first beer. Took two sips and ordered another beer and let the BL sit mostly undisturbed until after dinner (2 other beers later). Worked better with dessert and after it had warmed up a bit.

Crème Bruleé seems to be pretty prominent in this thread and I have to agree. Very very tasty, but just too sweet.

Bruery Oude Tart - Tasted great but man, the bottle I had was that very "ripping your enamel off" type of sour, and it took me much longer than two pours of any beer ever had before.

BCBS is the beer that comes to my mind as well. For me, 12 oz is just too much of a good thing. If it came in 7 or 8 oz bottles, that would be plenty.

    Boulevard BBQ was a job.

    A delicious job! But a job none-the-less.

I feel like a lot of beers fit this description these days. Incidentally, I don't think that DFH Raison D'Extra or Olde School are among them......if you have well-aged bottles. Fresh, they are slogs, but after 5 years or so I have no problem whatsoever.

I am in complete agreement with the Bruery Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. All very good, of course, but wow, I just do not want much more than 2-3 oz of any of them.

For me, most bocks are in this category. I find them difficult drinking. They are typically well-carbonated, and have an ultra-filling bready flavor.

A lot of this might be a byproduct of the "bottle share" culture. Perhaps we are so used to getting 2 ounces of everything, a full glass of almost anything comes to feel like work.

I had a sample of big lushious the other day - that would be a f**king struggle to get through I imagine. Even the 0.5oz or so in the sample wasn't easy
