As I sit here drinking a sea hag I p a from the new packaging I cannot believe how good it is. I have had this before and it wasn't nearly as good. Probably because it wasn't nearly as fresh. Which leads me to my question . With all the bitching and moaning about other breweries not dating ip a's Why does new england brewing get a pass? No I do love their beer and they are the nicest guys ever, but if I haven't seen this new can I would never have picked it up again because it has never been this good. Point is I've been drinking and I p a from this brewery and not knowing it because they don't date their cans. So I ask you why dio they get a pass. I realize. Gandhi bot flies off the shelf fast enough it does not need 1 but what about sea hag?

they don't get a pass. i don't buy sea hag and elm city from most of my local stores because i don't trust them regarding freshness, and NEBCO doesn't date their cans. unless i'm missing the dates (shrug).

NEBCO does date their cases, and has plans to date their cans whenever they finally get an automated canning line. I think one reason they "get a pass" is the fact that they can every single beer they sell by hand, one at a time, and it's such a tedious process already that no one would wish more labor upon them. For now, the best you can do is look to see if a store has cases stacked on the floor or in the back, and lift up the sixers until you see the date stamp.

I agree that this is a liability on their part, and I've definitely gotten burned by old Elm City from Amity; in general, try to buy NEBCO stuff from smaller, but still well-regarded stores - they don't get gigantic orders like Amity et al, and yet they get enough beer geek traffic to turn stuff over.

Didn't know they can all thier stuff by hand. Just sayin once they get their cans I'll be in buying a lot more of thier beer.

I've found that by checking the date on the boxes I've had pretty good luck with freshness on all their offerings. Admiitedly though since I am about 20 minutes from the brewery I try to get most stuff by growler!

Yeah, dating the case is next to pointless to me. Unless u have a beer geek working at the store this will not be a help. Not trying to bash these guys, actually very proud to have them in my home state and Ive met Matt a few times real nice guy.

They actually revamped the recipe to Sea Hag and it is way better as of lately. It doesn't have anything to do with freshness. I know as of right now Atlantic is out of it and when it comes back it should be pretty damn fresh.

Yeah, the fine gents at NEBCo. aren't there yet as far as dating cans. The brewery as you know is really small and stuffed to the gills with equipment. They are busy as hell to boot.At this time I can't really knock them for not dating their product.I am sure they are worried about getting orders filled ect. and keeping everything running smoothly as opposed to making sure every can has a date at this point in time.

    Cheers

Sea Hag is really good. As soon as I saw we received 2 cases of the new cans at my store I was pumped. Damn good IPA. Snap Son.

on my way to boston today, i stopped at glastonbury m&r looking for sea hag. asked if the cans were fresh (i'm obnoxious like that) and was told that they go through sea hag cases quickly.

6pk i brought up to the party here in boston indeed tasted very fresh, and wowed everyone who i let have some (i only had 2~3 myself). dating probably not as big a deal as i said above.
