It's a secret group so I'm already breakin the rules.. Lol I felt that post was ok to share. Basically it's being addressed internally before anything is set in stone. Hold onto your bottles of you're unhappy with the beer and I'm sure you will be made happy some how. I was as disappointed as you guys seem but I'm also hopeful that it will be resolved in a satisfying way.

No... The base isn't tart they made no mention of intentionally making it sour.... therefore infected

Yeah, I have stuck my nose in oak barrels, both brand new and previously filled with wine, rum, and whiskey (been on plenty of winery and distillery tours in my life), and didn't get a tartness to it whatsoever. I think this is a bad case of Cover Your Ass after the fact and making shit up. From that FB post, he would be implying that the beer was put in untouched oak barrels and not whiskey barrels, thus the 'tannic' or 'tart'-ness to this particular beer. Also, as someone else mentioned, there was no mention that this was supposed to be a characteristic of this beer. Leads me to believe there is something fishy going on. Just my $.02.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The I word is thrown around a lot, just like the "D" word (diacetyl). I have had barrel aged beers with kind of a tannin like twang, not sure if that is the right word to use (another one that get thrown around a lot)? Which isn't sour or tart, just a little off. I have not had this, so have no idea, if BB ends up testing it, I am sure we will hear about it. Or, they will be like Ranger Creek, and deny it. Whatever the truth is, sometimes people here, and brewers for that matter already have their minds made up, and don't want to listen to anything else. Which can be said about anybody (including me).

This particular beer is going in for testing. I don't see why they would lie about their in brewery analysis.

I usually don't attack peoples opinions, but im not sure how ANYONE can defend this beer. It was a clear misfire, clearly not intended to be tart/sour, no gingerbread flavor, no whiskey flavor, and the owner himself has said a few times since Friday that they had tasted it last week before release and "it had a nice tartness/lactic taste" to it.

I mean, seriously... what more do you need to hear? People thinking this beer is remotely acceptable are Helen Keller homers, bigtime

We could either a) bicker over whether a laboratory analysis shows this beer to actually be infected, or b) rate the beer on taste and let that speak for itself. If a brewer wants to clamor about how a beer -- that's rated a 2.69 -- isn't actually infected but is instead pleasantly tart, that's their prerogative.

Their is a right way and a wrong way to go about this, time will tell how it shakes out.

Why wasn't this tested (better yet taste tested) 2-3 days before release? Most normal breweries seem to take samplings of a random 1-3 bottles of a set days before it is released. Most places don't release beer the same exact day it was bottled or canned (unless its a normally produced product). It seems like there was little to no precaution taken with BB. Is that FB group saying it was supposed to "taste" that way? I'm really shocked that a couple thousand in bad product is being put up as collateral for what may be "good to okay" product in the future? BB, you do believe consumers are this stupid?

Unless it was tested internally and still released.. Excuse my language but what a shitty way to pawn off thousands of dollars of beer onto others. "Hey its supposed to be that way".

I went from admin to kicked in one day in order to convey to beer advocate members that the owner cares about what we think. I'll still say that Rassul is awesome and that I love the brewery but the boot is kind of petty in context. We'll see how it plays out when there are lab results. I myself have had beers with off flavor that mellowed out with time.

Lol, it was taste tested the night before the release. See my post above. It was also said that the beer "tasted tart/lacto" at that time by the owner. Also, I do not believe that comment was made in a negative way.....

I guess BB has been doing something right lately, cause I had Black Raz last week, and just found a bottle of this. Getting a small pour of something is one thing, but I am not sure if I have ever bought more than two bottles from them, and hardly ever order anything when at a bar. I absolutely would not have ever bothered with this, if I had not read this thread. So curiosity got the better of me, probably open it tomorrow, and put a review down...I am sure I will regret this $16 purchase, but cause I don't judge before trying, you never know
