Bummer that the line cutting happened. I was at the Thanksgiving Eve mess of a release (6 bottle limit). Initially shut out four spots away. Then, a random cases showed up. The stranger in front of me in line pointed me out to Jean. I asked for one bottle. However, this phrase you used is pretty funny.

Lots of fair points being made all around. At the end of the day, I still think there is something to be said for investigating a more organized bottle release system...but at the same time, I understand that these events are what they are. The fact remains that some people are willing to secure their bottles by lining up at times that I am not. I don't value the bottles as highly as other people do. I could show up earlier, but I just don't place that much importance on it.

Even if I probably won't attend future bottle releases, I'll keep showing up at other times because I just flat out enjoy the place...I got hooked on Tired Hands because of the beer on tap, bread, staff, and vibes, long before I ever considered showing up at 6 AM for a bottle release.

Those people are just crazy. I've showed up around 5pm the last 2 years and there was plenty left. $15 for 5oz from a 1/2 barrel makes the beer last all day. Also Captain Lawrence releases aren't silent, they're just last minute morning of and on wednesdays. Conveniently enough I've made sure my wednesdays are either off or work from home.

Even better is that I was 2nd in line when they ran out that day. Disappointed I got in line to fill a growler only to turn around and see them passing out bottles to people that were behind me in line. That was infuriating. I walked out and it took me six months to go back. I wrote a letter to them, but pretty much got a canned response back. Creating negative experiences for customers is not the best way to run a business, but as long as they are operating at capacity, they can get away with it.

Not true. 2 years ago yes you are 100% correct, last year however PtY kicked at 2-2:30pm at Monk's. I was there when it kicked and was fortunate enough to get a 2nd pour. Times are a changing while this commiunity is growing. I expect Monk's to be even worse this year. Last year the line was wrapped around to 17th well before open.

At the very least, why not do an "official-ish" count at 12:00 so that the people who are going to get shut out don't have to stick around another 2 hours to get the bad news? It doesn't have to be binding... just a "heads-up... by my count, we're at 680 bottles right here... so you people 50 back might want to reconsider." Waiting until 12:00 should avoid most of the issues with providing a count. And, as a bonus, the people who get shut out at 12:00 would actually be able to go inside and be among the first to get served a tasty (non-bottled) beer.
