Folks - a question for you.

A local tapas bar / cafe has started offering craft beers. Range is thus far

    • Four Pines full range
    • Black Duck full range (owner went to Port Mac)
    • Riverside 69 thus far

which alter as the weeks go by and the cases empty.

My question to you is how much would you be willing to pay per beer? The beers are served at correct temp, in a schooner glass rather than craft beer glass, they are bought to your table, service is good, and you pay at the end of the evening. The cafe has modest fit-out and food is available. Very suburban - ie edge of metropolis.

Imagine you are going to 'have a few beers' with your mates. Asking as their pricing is variable at the moment.

    Cheers,

I don't head out a lot , so not the best at guessing prices.

I'd think any more than $8 on 4 Pines 330ml bottles is having a laugh. Something similar for Black Duck & Riverside 69. Maybe a touch more on Black Duck as I can't imagine they are the cheapest to land of those 3 given their very small scale.

I would want to pay $6 or $7, because that lines up with the usual $10 or $11 pint price I consider fair (per L). But I'm sure its dearer.

I would be willing to pay $7 or $8 for most of the beers and up to $9 for something like black ducks phoenix stout. Obviously, would pay more for 4 pines keller door releases (500ml) but I'm assuming they're not an option yet?

Well this is obviously an Eastern States question as the prices aforementioned are completely absurd for WA. Although I wouldn't, some would pay $12 for those beers and thus feed the pockets of those who still think we are in a mining boom.

Personally I wouldn't buy any of them...I'd rather drink wine or nothing

I spend way too much on beer (like most of us) yet I cant bring myself to buy bottled craft when out dining, mark ups are just fkn ridiculous

I'm the same, tap beer only. And at least there is a better chance of tap beer being fresh.

    Folks,
Thanks for your inputs.... so some other info for thought.
The bar is sort of doing OK, the food portions are a tad xxx-y and quite small, easy to spend $50pp and the fit-out does not support that. :slight_frown:
The beers were originally $7, and are now $8. The extra dollar was what made me ask the question as me and my mates sat and had a few. (RSL 50 meters away went from $5.50 to $6 for Lashes at same time)
FLIPSIDE!!! - a bottle a wine will set you back around $16, and by the glass it's $7. So if us craft beer lovers like to drink what we prefer to, we pay a handsome surcharge for the priviledge.
    Cheers!!!

Well the beer prices go up with tax excise increases which occur twice every year. Once in February, and next in August. It could have been because of that increase why you saw the beer prices at this bar go up. It has been my experience somewhat (in both bars and bottle shops; mostly the latter) that prices are automatically raised but they gradually go down for a number of factors including less demand, cheaper transport costs etc.

Wine is not susceptible to the tax excise increase.
