The display might get people to buy one or two, as I did, but i don't know who would drink any of those beers more than once. That said, it sounds like they are expanding, so more power to them. I would love to know what kind of success they are having with these coolers.

Exactly the problem I see. In Germany, we are exactly the crowd they should be hoping to get, yet why the hell would I pay 25€ for that when I can get a case of Rothaus pils + a case of Wheinstephan or Augustiner for the same price?
Convincing the everyday German to spend that money is an even further stretch, though I guess their target market is more Germans who are into American styles and have disposable income than North American, UK etc expats who have excessive and cheaper access to the styles they are trying to sell.

Mikkeller will be in it soon.

I think disposable income is a very overlooked factor of people trying to bring craft from America over to Germany.

Makes sense, their Beer Geek Breakfast Stout, while good, may be the single most overpriced beer I've ever bought.

That does seem like an issue. And while I still think that Germans are kinda verwöhnt to some degree when it comes to beer prices (and this most likely being a factor in the Brauereisterben) I do think some of these prices are too excessive. I mean let's just say I want to get some really good Belgian stuff. In the long run, it's going to be much cheaper to just drive over there and stock up.

I would actually be very much interested in how things like Braufactum and CraftWerk do in comparison to the more modestly priced German crafts like Crew, Camba Bavaria, Hopfenstopfer and the likes. I guess the high price is also one of the factors why I've never gotten into all of the barrel aged, super limited extra editions.

It depends on the beer and the brewer. I recently got and tried 2 of the 4 barrel aged stouts from Schonramer, for 4.50€/33cl bottle. I would not buy them all the time, but quite a fair price and very solid beers. I passed on the 14€/33cl bottle of the overly waxed/wood blocked barrel aged beers by Brau Kunst. I cannot imagine it being 10€ better.

I actually didn't know that Schönramer had BA Stouts. I only knew about their RIS (which wasn't entirely my kinda thing). Honestly, I haven't seen many barrel aged beers that weren't somewhere in the >10€ range.

In the US you can often get a 660ml or 750ml ba stout for 14€, the Brau Kunst was a 330ml for that price:slight_frown:

I'm admittedly also kind of a bit on the fence about German stouts as I haven't found any German stout that could stand alongside some of the British and U.S. variants so I'm generally a bit wary there. The best one I've had so far was Camba Bavaria's MS. I think my favorite stouts so far was NC's Old Rasputin.

Those Braufactum fridges are usually in the wine sections, so theyre def. aiming for wine afficionados.
And those 3EUR 0,35l bottles are the cheapest ones in there.
Your regular 0,50c/bottle drinker probably isnt going for that.

Braufactum just made a deal with Mikkeller,so those beers will probably show up in the fridges soon.

I would anticipate Stone's stuff eventually showing up in these, too? Do any of these beers come by the crate?

I could see that happening. Although that would seem slightly hypocritical IMO (after all the crushing of macros and somesuch, pretty sure there were also some of the Radeberger lineup in there).

    Braufactum is importing and distributing

    Firestone Walker
    Brooklyn
    Boon
    Birra Baladin
    Birrificio Italiano
    Harviestoun
    Marston's
    Palm
    Rodenbach

One of the negative effects of that is, that these breweries are told to cut down their offerings to about a handful for the german market.

I dont know if Stone would go for that.

I would hope not. I'm also not necessarily keen on seeing their stuff go for similarly high prices. I actually wonder how some of these price discrepancies come about. How is it that some of those Braufactum and CraftWerk beers are that expensive when a good Belgian goes for around or under 2€ (e.g. Westmalle, Delirium, St. Bernardus)? Or even in comparison to some other domestics as the aforementioned Camba and Hopfenstopfer.

As far as I ever knew, the picture that @MattRiggs posted was representative of all the coolers I saw (including the detail about not being in the same location as the beer, Galleria Kaufhof had these coolers in the wine section of many of their stores). No crates, just single bottle offerings.

I don't see Stone being part of this, either, for reasons posted above.

Radeberger Group clearly thinks they can set their prices that high.
Its a huge reason why ive only bought 2 Braufactum Beers so far
I can get 3x 0,5l Schneider Weisse Tap 6 for 1 of their "cheap" 0,35l offerings in my neck of the woods

Yeah, I'm thinking pretty much the same thing - just extended to Belgians. I mean, hell - even some of the overseas imports are cheaper than that. I've definitely gotten Anchor and Sierra Nevada cheaper. And I dout that anytime soon they'll get anywhere close to their Liberty/Pale Ale, Porters or Stouts.

I'm betting that whoever paid for the cooler will be in the cooler. If Stone doesn't wish to pay, no play, that's the game.
