Wait, so there's a chance those much lauded recent batches of Nelson in the pub actually came from GF?

Not a chance; it was GF Nelson.

That's always been the one people felt was closest in flavor. Duet and PureHop, not so much.

I thought the one released at the same time as Kiwi Herman was brewed at Alpine? At least that's what was told when we were standing in line for the KH pick up. That's the one everyone was going gaga over.

They had a fresh batch of Nelson that week so the pub should have also had Alpine Nelson. Those bottles were crazy good, just finished the last one a couple days ago.

Yes, that batch was brewed at Alpine. That was a long, long time ago.

What was at Alpine last week in the pub and for growler fills was, from the way it sounds, Green Flash.

One of the best batches of Nelson I have had. I filled a grower with Nelson last week, it will be interesting to see if there is any real noticeable difference.

    Cheers

i just cracked open a Nelson growler that was filled on Valentines day @ Alpine, and drinking right now. Growler was filled with GF nelson as confirmed by Alpine FB post. Notes compared to ALPINE Nelson, Thinner in mouthfeel( watery), much more effervescent , not as aromatic , usually when i open an ALpine growler fills the kitchen with hop aromas, soapy aftertaste. If you dont have Nelson too often you probably wouldnt have picked up on the subtle differences. It is still a good beer, but not quite like the original. Like i said i cant honestly say what i would have thought of this growler if i would have drank it assuming it was ALpine Nelson

This is 100% my biggest issue with it. The carbonation is so so heavy on the beer in comparison.

Does anyone know if Green Flash will sell you an Alpine Nelson Keg for home consumption? Apparently a bar in El Centro CA got a keg of Nelson, which is in Imperial County the last county in CA to jump on the craftbeer bandwagon. Just a year ago it was impossible to find Stone IPA at any liquor store in the County. Now my neighborhood liquor store that ive been buying beer at since i was 14 has a decent craft beer selection.

Honestly not to sound like a dick, but the easiest way to find out is probably calling up green flash or talk to a liquor/bar about getting one from green flash.

You went from buying beer at a liquor store at 14, to drinking Alpine or going to bed...man, you sure have come a long way.

Not exactly , we used to fish at that liquor store and look for people to buy for us, bums etc. Was a lot easier to do in a the mid 90s, now it's a felony

Keene Idea still going strong at the pub, along with non-BA Odin's Raven and beer is never seen before called Rootbrew on cask -- smelled frickin' incredible. Plus bottles of the Big 3 and growlers of Odin's.
