I think you'll be OK. I assume your first 4 pack was from an early January batch, January 23rd & February canings have been reporting good quality products. If you have any concerns give them a call at France 44 before you order and ask about the dates on their current supply. Good luck, I sure hope you get some 1st rate Abrasive, it is the best DIPA on the market, of course, IMO.

Hey guys, my order of abrasive was partially frozen. It isn't completely frozen, but I can hear some frost in it. Will this hurt the beer or affect flavor?

As long as the seal wasn't compromised, it will be fine. Just pop it in the fridge and let it warm up to fridge temp for a bit before trying to drink.

Thankfully, there were not any burst cans and none were fully frozen. I have put them in there and will flip them every now and then. Thanks for the reply!

Maybe its just me, but does anyone else think that abrasive tastes better from a can? I'm having my 3rd can from a 2/6 4-pack and it tastes wayyy better for some reason than the ones I had poured into a snifter last weekened. I had a let it ride earlier so that might be affecting my palate.

^^ I disagree. I've only had it on tap at the brewery this year, but, that tap was/is heavenly!

Anyone know what beer Surly will be canning next on their new line? If that beer ends up having sporadic flat/low carbed beer then they REALLY need to get it fixed asap. It is obviously not just happening to a couple cans a run. And I don't want a swag pack, I have no use for any of that. All I want is to go into a liquor store and buy their beer with knowing it will be high quality and fulled carbed.

Based on the Abrasive I purchased dated 2/6/15, that was the 11th batch from the new brewery. The number right below the date is the batch number for the Mpls facility. They have all been perfect.

Okay cool. I read somewhere on here that someone had flat cans from the 2/6 canning. But really I think people are maybe thinking about it too much now.

All I'm seeing at Blue Max and Apple Valley Liquors is the 1/12 and 1/13 canning dates. You can physically feel the cans in each four pack that are fully carbonated and the ones that are flat. Kind of frustrating seeing how they are now done canning.

Anyone in the south metro area seeing any newer canning dates without issue at some other stores down here?

I had my first abrasive last night. It was fully carbonated and awesome! There is a difference in the feel of each can from the 12 cans I bought. They are the 2-6 batch. Some are softer than others, but idk what is acceptable. Hopefully they will all be okay. If not, then I will let you guys know!

I was at a store yesterday looking for some 2/6. They checked in back and said they only have 1/15, which was delivered this week. He said he heard stores are sending back their stock and they are redistributing them. While I know that is common, wonder if it is a bigger problem/more with Abrasive due to the issues.

It probably is going to be all the old stuff on the shelf after canning is done, which sucks having to play Abrasive roulette.

Aside from Kaz, has anyone had any carb issues with the 2-6 batch?

Was it in a glass and Did it still have carbonation when you were half way threw the can?

I had cans from Feb 6 batch, and no I am not thinking about it too much. I think about just like I would ever other beer. One can was flat and the other three were under carbonated. Which means, poured into a glass the carbonation level looks fine. Nothing wrong, right? DIPA's are meant to be sipped on, so 15 minutes later half way threw, the beer went flat and turned into a Barleywine IPA. It's as if the carbonation left real quick. If anyone thinks I'm insane and thinking about it too much, I have pictures and videos.

So.. you let your beer sit out for a while and the bubbles went away? I'm pretty sure that happens with all beer.

This was while I was drinking the beer. Do you drink DIPA's quicker? I like to sip them as they should. The bubbles didn't go away, the carbonation went away completely. Does that sound right to you?

Someone else's post in the carbonation issues thread:

I live in Orland Park IL, been searching everywhere for Abrasive. Found two 4 packs in Westmont and 2 more in Grocery store in New Lenox. Tried one can from each. All packs are dated 2/6/15. Noticed that there is an 11 printed under the 6 on each date listing on the pack. Not sure what that is. Both cans i had were not flat but were definitely not carbonated as they should be. Taste was fine just borderline flat. Would I buy it again? Yes but not for the 18$ I paid. Probably would pay 10$. If the next one is the same I am going to try mixing it withHopslam.
