Mexican Cake is widely and plentifully distributed in SC. It's a shelf beer in Columbia at some shops. If you haven't found it in Charleston in years past, then you didn't look hard enough. Now, if you went out in mid-June expecting to score on a prized early-May release...

And if you are in NC, please call Advintage and demand Westbrook's flagship beers at your local shop (and bomber releases). The more it sells, the faster you will see Cake and others.

I just hope I can find some at Brew Thru this summer!

It's geopolitical strategy; Raleigh and Charlotte are closer to South Carolina. Just kidding. At this point I'm sure some of the large beer and wine chainy type places are breathing down the distributors neck for a piece of the action as well. I'm going to get a six pack of Foothills Pilot Mountain Pale Ale and relax.

Sorry for lurking on this thread...but we DO NOT get Mexican Cake in Colorado, so I'm really hoping to find some while in Charleston next week. And...you're telling me there's a chance?!

Depends...do you consider no chance as a chance? MC was released in the summer and not exactly a shelf turd!

Hah. Touche. Maybe someone will trade me if I bring some bottles from my cellar...

There are enough good folks on here that I am sure someone will hook you up with a trade.

At this point I'd say you're dealing with slim pickings as far as bottles that are still available for trade. You may be able to find someone but you'd probably be better off trying again when the next release occurs in May.

You're kidding, right? The core 4 beer lineup that Westbrook puts out is as strong of a lineup as you'll find anywhere. As a brewery, they make their money on those 4 beers, which allows them to brew specialties. Their favorite kind of customer is one that consistently buys those 4 beers, not someone that only searches for one-offs and special releases.

I will continue to buy all 4 of those core beers, especially in the summer for the pool (White Thai is probably the best pool beer). I struggle to think of a better option so readily available to us. Let's be honest, we are lucky to have them. South Carolina's beer scene would be no where even close to what it is now without them.

You can thank COAST for that, not Westbrook.

While Coast makes some great beers they are no Westbrook. I don't see BA blackeerd trading like crazy like the BA cakes do. Coast hardly makes it out of Charleston so it has hardly put SC's beer scene on the map.

The brisket that is sold at COAST is better than their beers.

Sorry, but stop being such homers for COAST.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, but which Coast beers have you had?

Also, trading isn't necessarily indicative of a superior/inferior beer.

Not to get in the COAST v Westbrook debate but COAST really does make exquisite beers. Trade value has little to no bearing on that.

Right. When I have friends in from out of town, they want Westbrook. Most have never even heard of COAST.

I had one bottle of Boy King that I really enjoyed a few years ago. Everything else I've had from them has either been average or had weird off flavors. Maybe I've just had bad luck, but I've never understood the love they get. I very much prefer Westbrook's beers.
